Probably not motivated by a loud, yet raspy, bald penguin?

Dood, they're not even 100%. Arguably their best player is still hurt. This is the same team that had lost 4 in a row and been struggling, the only difference was Hill. He comes back, looks great, and they just dismantle Denver.

Yeah I wasn't being sarcastic, I had them at 50 wins and running away with the NW. I'm just glad Denver got them on the 2nd night of a back to back sans Hill/Favors the last time because they have positively stuffed our **** in the last year and a half.

The whole thing about the jazz, is that they played OK for 120 NBA games (since the trade of Enes Kanter) without even a competent backup PG on their roster (Neto might be the average 3rd PG, Mack is pure cancer, Exum is not ready)

That's absolutely insane, unless you have a Lebron James in your team, you shouldn't be able to win NBA games

George Hill is an average or slightly below average starting PG, but that was still the biggest upgrade on a position in the whole league, last summer, probably a bigger upgrade than Durant/Barnes

I think you're underrating Hill for what Utah needs out of him. Sure he may be average if you need your PG to sport a ridiculous usage, but if you need your PG to move things along and play good to great defense like Utah does, I think that vaults him into the top 10 quite easily.

I'm a little worried about their long-term ceiling though with Favors possibly being kicked to the curb or chronically injured and Hill being on the wrong side of 30, but for now they are quite good.

The Favors case sucks, because healthy he's the 2nd best defensive PF in the league, he's a nightmare for smallball line-ups, and he's capable of averaging 20 points

But George Hill and Hayward are probably more important to the team, and Favors has a low trade value

GL to Lindsey to find the right thing to do with these 3 guys

I personally have no idea what's the best thing to do for this team in that situation

Plus Hayward could leave to join Brad this offseason. That'd suck.

I this Jokic/Favors is jizzworthy and they can afford him, needs some health though.

I get why hayward is a max player in an NBA with very good not great players getting maxes on the reg. But does a team with apparent legit title aspirations want to eat up a chunk of their cap with a maxed Gordon Hayward?

Hayward is good/very good at everything a wing can do in NBA

Even if he's not elite at anything, that's a good max, if he isn't the number 1 offensive option in his team

OKC gets hayward they become a title contender, Boston same, clippers swap Griffin for Hayward and they are still a top 3 team itl, Pelicans become a top 4 seed ....

OKC/BOS + Hayward have 0 title equity collectively. Probably still 0 if you combined their rosters.

In the sense that nobody really has title equity besides GS then sure. If not, come on, OKC/Bos+Hayward is a top 3 team in the league probably though. Maybe top 2. RWB/Bradley/Hayward/Horford/Adams with Isaiah/Yolo/Crowder etc off the bench and BRAD coaching. That's 3 top 25 players, a ton of depth, and a top 5 coach.

Brad has lost some luster this year. And his teams' playoff performances are somewhat concerning.

As to title equity, well yeah, I mean GS is by far the best absolute collection of talent ever assembled and arguably the best collection of talent assembled relative to the league. So those factors significantly affects everyone else's equity.

I'll concede (somewhat) on the OKC + BOS + Hayward having zero equity. They probably have closer to 5%. The point was more how ludicrous it was to suggest that adding Hayward to either roster gives them non-zero equity, let alone makes them "contenders" which implies 10%+ equity.

If Hayward goes to OKC during FA, and bookies at the start of the season set the line of the Ring to 20/1 you don't put money on it ?

Same question for Boston

FYI, market set Boston at 20/1 at the beginning of this season (I would not put money on this sure, but with Hayward that's a snap call)

No to OKC, maybe to BOS. But 20-1 is stretching the definition of contender.

Wat? So okc and Boston are just a Gordon Hayward away from legit contending with lebron and gsw? Not even a little bit close
NBA Game Day Thread 2016-17 Quote

Boston is for sure. "Not even a little bit close" is crazy. You're either underrating Boston, or underrating Hayward, probably both. Horford & Crowder, Boston's two best players, have barely played this season. I'd be shocked if they weren't a top 3 seed by seasons end, assuming they stay healthy. Their biggest issue is relying too much on Thomas for creation especially late in games, Hayward would immediately become their best creator who would fit in perfectly with their motion offense. He would also add another positive wing defender on a team full of them. I don't think you realize just how good a Thomas/Bradley/Hayward/Crowder/Horford lineup would be.

I don't think so there's max 6/7 teams every year that reaches those odds

And it's either you get Hayward and become a 5/10% contender, either you don't and you have max 2%

People here should really understand that moving your team to a 1% title shot is hard, but getting to 10% requires good management, good players and a good coach.

Real life team building is not taking a look at title odds, if < 20% destroy your team until you get a top 5 player, and call yourself a contender

If any team can do a move that improves by 5 points their title odds, it's a good move and they must do it

I definitely agree that teams in the 45-50 win range should look to add a top-30/40 player like Hayward to their teams in almost all circumstances. As a fan of BOS/OKC I would want that to happen, even if it negligibly affects title odds. It clearly improves both teams' chances of getting out of 1st round.

Crowder takes half his shots from 3 where he's a 32% career shooter. He's a solid defender, all defensive stats seem to point towards an above average wing defender but nothing transcendent like Lebron, kiwi or mkg.

Solid role player and definitely a great asset considering what he's getting paid but i'll never get why he's being talked as a superstar at times
