(most of) the officiating talk is justified because, well, the officiating has sucked.
Check out the Spurs / okc thread. No ref / riggage talk.
Much of it probably has to do with style of play, but there must be other factors.
I only watched part of game two in this series, and I thought the reffing was shady (in favor of Miami, obv).

Van Gundy is often wrong when the officials get it right (see Garnett's travel)

Re: NBA ECF: Heat vs Celtics
Not to derail all of the officials rigging talk, but a fascinating moment, from the perspective of team dynamics, occurred during a late timeout in game four.
While the Boston coaches were out on the floor prepping to talk to the team, the ESPN camera roamed into the Boston bench, and there was Rondo sitting in the coach's chair, facing the team and clearly providing direction with Allen, Garnett and Pierce all appearing focused and engaged.
It seems that Rondo may have come a long way forward from the petulance of the water bottle throwing, video machine smashing, needs to be moved out of town unity dividing diva of last year.

Re: NBA ECF: Heat vs Celtics
i watched the whole game and am a boston fan. i thought the refing in game 4 was horrible both ways. they fouled pierce out first on some bull****, and there was one play where waids stole it from rondo by banging through his head. i really dont see how you can say the refs favored boston. they were just straight up idiots.

sailorsaint, what did rondo do specifically last year?
at what point do you just stop watching NBA? it was so annoying when they made a bad call, they dont even show the replay on TV. just complete rigging BS joke.

Just because a non-zero amount of calls went Miami's way doesn't mean they didn't favor the Celtics, you ******.

lol my examples were anecdotal, not meant as rigorous proof. however pierce fouling out on that bogus play was important. cool post though bank you need to do whatever drug a guy like you does though to chill out.

Re: NBA ECF: Heat vs Celtics
a big thing that no one is talking about is how big this postseason is for Wade's legacy. i feel like winning 1 ring despite playing ~6 peak years with shaq and lebron/bosh would be pretty bad. say what you will about kobe but at least he took advantage of his opportunities playing with elite teammates.
obviously the same with lebron whose legacy/potential GOAT status is hurt every year he doesnt rang, but its not like everybody isnt already talking about that

So you can't even comprehend the thought of someone thinking that the refs favored Miami, however slightly?

Boston media reported that between games of last year's second round series with Miami, Rondo became disgruntled while receiving criticism from coaches and veterans during a video session. Rondo threw a water bottle that damaged the video machine. Rondo then left the practice facility only to return later but was not allowed back in. This story was leaked out back in the late fall when Boston was looking to move Rondo for Chris Paul.
In addition to the instance in game four where he temporarily claimed the coach's chair, there was a timeout in game three during which a microphone picked up Rivers looking directly at Rondo and telling him to make sure he structured the floor on the offensive end. This seemed more like Rivers was being sure to tell the rest of the team that Rondo was in charge more than providing a directive to Rondo.
It seems that the relationship between Rivers and Rondo may have evolved this year which may bode well for Boston's future.

Re: NBA ECF: Heat vs Celtics
I dont see why people are arguing about the refs with heat fans. Heat are used to Lebron and Wade getting every call while be able to do whatever on D and not get a whistle. Obviously in a game where they arent so heavily awarded the fans will see it as a massive screwjob.

i see you are quite the literalist. it is surprising to me that you, or others may think boston was favored by the refs. but yes, i can "comprehend" that someone may think the refs favored boston "however slightly." thanks for this provacative discussion.

Re: NBA ECF: Heat vs Celtics
sailor, i get the impression rondo cares about basketball a lot. in interviews he is pretty terse and not smiling, i intrpret that to mean that he just cares about playing good and celtics winning. thanks for sharing the stories with me i like the gossip : )
