yeah in that situation that's as good as a shot as you can expect. Heat fans should be very happy with that.

taking a last second shot down 2 is AIDS... Chalmers was open for a 3 with about 9 seconds left

Dunno mjw, understand your point is you want another chance if you miss and they shouldn't have been holding for the last shot, but mebbe getting shot off last second is better than 9 seconds? Some time with the ball in the air, some time for the rebound and foul. Got no equity down 3 with little time when you get the ball back if you miss. Whereas if you make, just got the time the ball is in the air and clock stops right away on the make to give them some decent equity w/ ball and down only 1.

I mean, Wade had a wide open 3 to win the game on the last shot. What more can you possibly want? It's not like the Heat were gonna win in 2OT with no Bron anyway. Either they were gonna make a 3 to win it, or they were going back to Miami tied 2-2.

Having the chance to get an offensive rebound + fouling/getting another possession more than makes up for giving the other team some time left to potentially win. I can't believe that's even debatable.

The other thing is... Wade is not a good 3 point shooter and he was surrounded by really good shooters. I posted a picture of Chalmers (a much better shooter) appearing open... this angle shows it a lot more clearly:

They had a chance to get a way better shot than what Wade gave them.

Not much moar, but if you are going for the win it would be better to get a shot for someone who isn't WAIDS from 3 if you can.

Wade's still on the left side of the court there with Chalmers way out on the right wing. If Wade tries to make that pass, there will be tons of time for Dooling to close out, and the most likely result is Chalmers just throwing it back to Wade with the next most likely result being Chalmers taking the shot heavily contested or making a move to try to get open and then shooting. The chances that Miami ends up with a better look than the one Wade got are <10%.

Idk man, I think mjw is making a pretty good argument. I wasn't watching the game that closely so I wasn't aware of the possibility of Chalmers getting a good look with 9ish seconds left. Because of this...

...If I were a Heat fan (iow if I had no soul) I would've definitely liked to see Wade make that pass and see if Chalmers could get a good look with more time on the clock. As said, the way things turned out, was definitely good. That was a great look by Wade. The shot just didn't go in. But I think passing the ball to Chalmers in that spot and seeing what happens is the optimal course.

Grunching:

NBA refs are just a joke in general. The double foul was mind numbing. Are they just obliged to call a fall cause they fell over or what? The KG travel, offense foul, and LeBron's 6th foul were also unbelievably bad calls. It's beyond ridiculous that Kennedy is allowed to officiated any Celtics game after his beef with Doc, and Joey Crawford is just turrible all the time. Why can't the NBA hire some competent refs? It's just becoming painful to watch most playoff games.

wades still on the left side of the court bc he was dicking around after he caught the inbound, chalmers isnt coming off that screen for no reason so it seems as if wade didnt really run the play

I'm somewhat rooting for the Heat. Almost out of pity. It's just sad watching the greatest player of a generation continue to embarrass himself.

kg's travel was actually a travel, just not the type of thing that gets called in the nba often

An NBA player wanted to be the hero on the last second shot? No way!

Yeah. Probably see worse on every single possession (see every single D Wade catch) but probably technically correct.

This. I was having an argument with someone about it during the game, so I slowed it down to 1/4 speed, and the (left) pivot foot goes up on edge, and then slides about an inch and a half to the right with no weight on it when KG puts all his weight on the right foot. It was a close play that is often let go, but it's definitely the correct call.

what's even worse is that they changed the rules so that most of the plays you're talking about aren't even a travel, pathetic

I have to agree with Beef here...

I didn't see KG's foot slide across the floor any. It did appear he moved it all different angles and it looked funny but I didn't see it slide. Just funny the call was made there when I've seen far more obvious travels routinely go uncalled. Either NBA officiating is much harder than it looks or LOL Stern!

hint: by the time JVG starts saying "he's not traveling, still not traveling, nothing wrong there" etc, he already traveled

obv he technically travelled, but considering the egregious travels that routinely go uncalled it's pretty lol when they randomly decide to call it on a play like that. if they call a travel every time a guy slides his foot an inch that's 20 extra turnovers a game, and is far less unfair of an advantage compared to times guys actually travel
