it's not just going away from Rondo (this happens EVERY 4th q just about). We also went away from the KG v antawn matchup. It wasn't just Rondo going off in the 1st half. We were getting great looks by posting KG and either letting him go at it or him finding cutters.

So of course, we isol pierce vs a guy that outweighs him, is stronger, and faster. Just a complete joke.

Believe it or not I don't totally disagree with this. He's definitely a better than average three point shooter and he was wide open. I just feel like in that situation it's still +EV to use up as much clock as possible. Especially when you have a guy as good as LeBron James on your team to take the shot as the clock winds down.

Sigh. I though the Cetics would get jobbed but they just stopped trying in the last 1:30. And could we please stop relying on Pierce?

yeah, and we didn't. Even when we execute the game plan, we don't play THAT good.

scoring is more +ev than running clock when there are 2 min left

I know this is the typical message board smarter than NBA coach thing, but seriously, I wish I could win some charity auction for a lunch with Doc and just print out some threads here and go over strategy with him.

Yeah, Reggie was incredibly results oriented there. What, you're going to burn clock to get a better shot than that? It was a wide open three from one of the best 3 point shooters in the league. That's like >1.5 pts in EV.

It wasn't that Rondo became less effective, either, when he drove in the second half he either was passing to a wide open player or getting fouled. He just did it a lot less so they could iso Pierce for a contested 17 footer.

It's hard to take you seriously when you make outrageous claims like these.

Rondo is the best player on the team. He has been all year. It was ridiculous to abandon what was working. He was single-handedly crushing this game. Though we harped on the bench and Doc sucking all year, so when they do there really shouldn't be any surprise.

I think its one of those things you say in the heat of the moment. When I saw Mo toss up that shot, my initial reaction was kinda like oh bad idea, but yeah obviously it makes sense in retrospect.

he did it non-stop until he got his 4th foul, apparently Doc forgot about him while he was sitting on the bench and when he came back I can't even recall seeing him with the ball (except for the Perkins turnover)

I thought Mo was kind of off-balance on that 3 but I could be wrong. He was kind of blocked by the Celtics players.

no, Doc didn't forget about him. This happens in pretty much every close game. We go away from Rondo/Allen/KG/etc and run Pierce isols.
