He also showed a complete inability to rebound.

Every player is not getting that kind of attention by teams. When thats the type of attention you get and nobody can hit shots of course you will end up with turnovers. Its not surprise his Reb% isnt high when thats the kind of coverage he gets.

The reason all the scouts rave about him is they watched Cade all though highschool,AAu, and fiba. They know what he looks like when hes not triple teamed. Hes not going to be covered like this in the NBA. The stuff to get on him about isnt rebounding % and TOs its that hes lacking athletism and he needs to improve on scoring in the mid range.

Whats funny is going into the college season he was the 1 prospect. The weakness everyone hated on Cade about was his outside shooting. He turned outside shooting into the one of the strongest aspects of his game. You dont want to bet against this guy.

Cade attempted 5.7 3s per game and made 40.0%
Here are his teammates with more than 1 attempt per game:
Code:
           3pta/gm 3pt%
Williams 3.8 31.8
Walker 3.3 33.0
Flavors 3.0 26.0
Boone 2.2 27.1
Anderson 2.1 32.8
Harris 2.0 0.0

Cade: 20.1 ppg 6.2 reb 3.5 ast 57.4% TS.
Team ranked 11th in the final AP poll.

Middleton averaged 7.2 ppg as a freshman.

His best season was as a soph: 14.3 ppg 5.2 reb 2.8 ast 55.9% TS.
His team finished that season ranked 24th.
Two of his teammates were better 3pt shooters that year than him, meaning he had superior spacing and passing options compared to Cade.

junior: 13.2 ppg 5.0 reb 2.3 ast he shot 26% from 3pt and went pro.

Khris Middleton did not "do better" than Cade Cunningham in college!

Imagine if you put Cade on Gonzaga where Suggs played. It would of been so easy for him there to play the point. Tons of spacing, easy assists, and wide open shots. You really have to put who guys play with and what system they operate in into context and look beyond stats on prospects.

In fiba when Suggs and Cade played with the exact same team.

Cade 23.5 mins11.7ppg 40.7% 4.9rb 5.7 apg 2.0TO
Suggs 15.8min 9.6ppg 29.7% 2.7 rb 2apg 1.3TO

So Cade plays on same team with Suggs and his numbers are better and by all reports Cade is the engine of the team. Cade goes to Okstate plays with a bunch of turds and now suddenly hes low IQ? Its obv Suggs looked better in college because hes playing on a all star team and Cades numbers look inefficent because hes being triple teamed. Suggs might of improved some from this point to the NCAA but its obv Cade did to he went from having no 3pt shot to being one of the best shooters in the draft.

Cade is no Luka. The difference between the ACB and euro league and the NCAA is gigantic. The worst players in the ACB and euro league are still pros, better than almost all NCAA players.

I have more faith that Según will be a good NBA player than that Cade will.

Mobley should obviously have gone number one.

How the Spurs passed on Segun when they have Duncan to mentor him is mind bottling.

Isn't Cade going to play 2 guard for the Pistons? They have Killian Hayes.

@nucleardonkey Nobody is Luka. Plenty of Euro players have came over to the NBA and struggled over the years its not automatic translation to the NBA. I like Sengun I was surprised he fell.

Mobley is a good prospect as well I can see the case for him going 1. Hes not perfect either though hes really skinny. Hes soft spoken doesnt seem to be that alpha leader type a young team wants from what I'm reading. I'm in general not a fan of taking a big over a do everything guy who can play multiple positons like Cade as its harder to find 6'8 7ft wingspan multi position player that can shoot the 3 then it is big men these days.

@eastern motors I think we see them both handle the ball alot. Cades really versatile. Hes the type of guy you want in the "positionless" basketball era. Cade IMO is going to be more of a wing. I've seen some good comparisons being a ceiling of a better passing Tatum,PG13,or a Middleton type player.

We really need to see what we have with Killian he looked lost last season. He was good shooter in Euroball 39% from 3pt on 4fga but man he looked lost with us as a rookie. He didnt play much had a injury covid season to be fair but I'm not convinced hes a NBA guy yet.

Pistons are going to have an exciting summer league team this season.

I wish you guys luck (well, to a limited extent ) with Killian. I honestly didn't see the hype what with him leaving France, playing in Ulm inefficiently & so on and so forth. I'm ride and die Theo > Killian. And I'm not that high on Theo. I really don't think you should trust those Euroball stats at all as predictors.

This is not, at all, to say he doesn't have the physical gifts & mental strengths to develop into a good NBA player - but I really don't see what the evidence is that he does.

Imo, he was hugely over-rated because of having dual US citizenship. (So let's auto-think Kobe.)

I liked the pick at the time. I figured it was boom or bust pick. KC over at the ringer had him 1 which helped me drink the koolaid as well. Many Pistons fans wanted Haliburton(not me) and yeah hurts seeing how good Tyrese is.

Overall though you dont want to call him a straight bust off of a rookie year where he got hurt and the covid hit. We shall see what happens this season.

Basketball certainly was weird this year.

There's no argument about that and I'm sure it'll create at least a few significant outliers from rookie to pro development progression.
