Re: NBA Draft 2018

Trae Young seems like a rich man's Lou Williams with better passing.

What he's doing is insane, and people will look back at his college career and ask how anyone could doubt him as a prospect. I am so high on Doncic and I now think there is doubt between who should go first. They are well above everyone else in my opinion.

Re: NBA Draft 2018

If by “better passing” you mean markedly better floor vision then I agree.

Trae is one of the best players in the draft and is value in the 5-7 range.

I still don’t like drafting non-elite athleticism shorts over talls, though ftmp.

Ayton/JJJ/Bamba/Mikal all have higher ceilings imo.

IT2 with better playmaking and more room to improve is a sick player. Also he’s bigger than IT2 and a sick shooter.

Agree I think he'll be very good. He just doesn't have the elite potential as some of the other prospects. He can also be exploited more easily at this point by better players

Steph Curry could also be abused on D on a different team.

Sometimes you gotta go with results over how they look in gym shorts.

Re: NBA Draft 2018

Ya, Trae Young has incredible potential with his shooting and quick release. Maybe because of his lack of size+ defense he doesn't have the high floor others do, but to say he doesn't have as high of ceiling is incorrect in my opinion.

Re: NBA Draft 2018

The reason I said ceiling and not floor is because anyone can develop shooting and other skills. You can't develop size/athleticism (which is why people with higher ceilings already possess elite measurables imo)

Re: NBA Draft 2018

You're not going to see an athletic guy with size that can't shoot or dribble develop an ability to take step back 3s very often, they may develop a wide open shot though so that kind of caps their potential. Also, the difference between a 38% 3 pt shooter on 2.5/a is vastly different from say a 42% on 7.0/a per game. Trae Young has the potential for elite shooting on many attempts each game, which is an incredibly high ceiling.
Did players like Curry and Harden have high floors and low ceilings because of their lack of size/athleticism?

Shooting and other skills aren't hard capped, so anyone can improve that skill a lot and it's much more likely for someone with those skills at high level to develop them further and become truly elite at them then say someone who doesn't have the skill at all gaining it and becoming say in the top 3/4 of the league in it.

Re: NBA Draft 2018

Agree with the above, the whole "his ceiling is low" because lack of size/athleticism thing is exagerated.

Also you can talk about ceiling but you need to talk about frequency of reaching that ceiling and the floor as well, just pointing out absolute ceiling is really not that important in basketball. The whole notion of giving higher ceilings to athletic guys because they "can learn to shoot" is just poorly used.

Technically my ceiling is Stephen Curry

Ok I can agree with that. Hopefully he can develop defensively cause at this point he's worse than curry and on par with IT3

Re: NBA Draft 2018

NBA teams better take a real long look at Young Trae. Evaluate him sober. Evaluate him a little high, slightly higher etc. See all the perspectives on him.

Some real freak athletes at the top of the round ball game, but also guys that can execute the 3 points are better than 2 play.

Citing Harden's lack of size/athleticism has to be one of the most tilting recurring parts of prospect comparisons.

To start: Harden has truly elite NBA size. He's a combo guard with a 7'0 wingspan, I mean that puts him in rarified air alone.

On athleticism, there's more to being an elite athlete than jumping the highest. Harden's body control/coordination/strength/agility are all factors and Harden is like Top .001% in NBA history in some of those categories. He's an elite athlete with elite size, just not on casual fan paper of height/vertical leap

Re: NBA Draft 2018

Only watch like two Harden games a year but he seems to have a real high IQ. Every little movement of his is thinking on another level compared to most, drawing fouls/setting up the defender.

My point was more about him being absurdly skilled. Just like Trae Young has probably elite coordination and thus has a high ceiling.

Sorry I must have missed where you said 'lack of size/athleticism' for Harden explicitly

Re: NBA Draft 2018

Keita Bates Diop

Michigan State had the best 2 point fg% defense in the history of college basketball going into the Ohio State game and Bates Diop cooked their defense and specifically Jaren Jackson JR who is a lottery pick and best defender in all of college basketball

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb...es-diop-1.html

30.8 PER 638 TS% on 28.1 usage 62% from 2 42% from 3
82% FT shooter on 6.7 attempts/100
16 rebounds per 100 possessions 28 blocks and 21 steals in 18 games so far.

Does it all really. You dont see it in the video linked but his long strided glides to the rim remind me of Brandon Ingram when hes driving.

DX wrote this about him in 2016:

"Standing 6'7" with exceptionally long arms and a frame that looks like it can fill out over time, Bates-Diop's NBA intrigue starts around that physical profile. Add in his mobility and coordination and Bates-Diop has the chance to develop into a player who can defend multiple positions, especially as his body continues to physically mature down the line." - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/...tes-Diop-7256/ ©DraftExpress

Re: NBA Draft 2018

Trae Young went 10/18 from 3 today. Of those 10 makes, at least 7 (if not more ) were from NBA 3 point range.

Youll also notice in the video that almost all of his 3s are off the dribble, hes not even getting easy catch and shoot 3s.
