So if you contrast this draft to the 2013 draft, there might ne 6-7 guys who project as better grades than Anthony Bennett. Obviously, nobody knew Bennett would suck as much as he would but still, Jaren Jackson Jr might not go until #7 or so and he projects as way better than Bennett did at this time in his draft.
Bagley, Doncic, PorterJR, Ayton, Bamba, JJJ all project as top 3 picks and theres obviously too many prospects to fit for top 3. Think this is the most loaded draft since LeBron/Wade/Carmelo/Bosh.
I know he cake out of nowhere iirc. Dont think he was ever considered a top prospect throughout the seasonuntil very close to the draft. I could be wrong about that though.
There are 2 great players from that draft, both were taken in the mid to late 1st (Giannis and Gobert) and there are some good players like Porter, McCollum, KCP, Adams, Dipo, Zeller but the #1 was LOL bad. And there are a few huge busts in the top 10 like Len, McLemore, Burke to go with Bennett.
duke v texas was quite interesting - bamba really looks like an idiot offensively, not only do his instincts seem quite weak, he just makes dumbass decisions sometimes (like trying to bring the ball up). he is also super weak, but i guess that'll get a bit better in time
bagley had 34 - did it in a few different ways, still v efficient around the rim even in a game with bamba (not that he took it right at him, but he's quite quick and instinctual around the basket). seemed a bit less effective going 1on1 (esp texas have this fat white guy who seemed to defend him decently), but the postups at the end were nice. would be cool if he can hold up at center in the nba because his shooting has been quite bad so far (only 18/36 on fts)
interesting comp, i've got bosh's advantages as a prospect:
- longer
- better shooter
- more athletic (?)
bagley is likely better off the catch, and potentially has better perimeter skills in general (although he hasn't really leveraged them much in ncaa, and likely won't be able to due to bad spacing)
i've been watching most of the doncic highlights this year - i think it's pretty reasonable to expect him to be a very good and versatile shooter. his numbers aren't sick, but the degree of difficulty is very high; he seems totally capable of bombing extra long 3s, stepping back, shooting off the dribble etc. it alleviates some concerns about potential lack of athleticism because if he can just bomb from 3 in pnr (ridic hard to defend a 6'6 guy doing it) he's a nightmare cover, esp with his v good passing
we can def lock in doncic or ayton for the #1 pick at this point imo
jaren jackson really has the kind of quickness that guys his size rarely have + some solid-seeming shooting touch. he is def not that polished, looks pretty spazzy at times, but he also seems to have heaps of wim
imo he's not unlike myles turner as a prospect - seems a bit smaller but more athletic. legit defensive talent athletically + shooting + wim is a pretty intriguing combo
i wonder if this guy has any draft buzz, first time i've really heard of him but he seems to be a quite athletic mobile 4 with some shooting ability, and apparently is a bit of a sleeper. he'd be the first japanese-born player to get drafted if he did end up looking promising enough
found this article which highlights some bad defensive play from ayton. cliffs are he doesn't make the impact as a help defender / rim protector that you'd expect from a guy with his tools, just kinda stands around sometimes without making rotations

damn, not good. a lot of these look wiggins-esque.
it does remind of wiggins a bit, and he's a great case in point of a guy who had his draft stock bolstered by his defensive tools, but obviously if the guy never plans on utilising the tools then there's really not much there to like
i guess the upside of that article is that he at least seems to have some ability to defend on the perimeter adequately, but being a giant vag around the rim isn't gonna fly
