Yea, i was comparing the size of Klay to Doncic along with their athletic ability( hops + speed/quickness), not necessarily their game. Klay is a better shooter & defender currently but he doesn't have the potential as a playmaker or shot creator that Doncic has due to lack of ball handling + passing ability. It's also not impossible to think that Doncic can develop into a really good shooter & solid defender if we think his size/athleticism is on par with a guy like Klay. If whichever team drafts Doncic tries to play him at point guard, i think he doesn't look good as a defender in year 1, but he should be played as a 2-3 who handles the ball.

I think Doncic floor is better than Rubio tbh, Rubio legit has no offensive game, can't create separation off the dribble, can't drive to the basket nor shoot from deep. Doncic even if he never develops a consistent 3 point shot will still be able to create separation & show his mid range game & be able to get to the rim & finish.

I don't get the Doncic/Rubio comparison at all. Rubio is all athleticism and defense, can't shoot, ... basically reaching to find a similarity between the two besides having played in Spain. "passing well" is too vague.

Is it so hard to see the comparison between big, smart playmaking guards who create offense very well off PnR. Rubio’s not an elite athlete; his defense is all size/smarts/angles/anticipation (kinda like Lonzo)

It's very doubtful he'll be anywhere near the offensive player Harden is. Harden is arguably one of the best pure offensive players all time and it's mainly lead by his ability to get to the line and hit FTs at a really high rate.

Agreed. Harden's power/quickness level puts him at another level that I don't see Doncic getting to.

dragic comp is no good imo. his mould is basically 'athletic slasher' as pgs go, probably a below average passer by position. doncic has way more natural craft, passing vision/touch, and shooting in general

i think the rubio passing comp isn't terrible, like rubio is great at skip passing which is a strength of doncic too. obviously doncic appears to be a much more dangerous scorer

klay comp for doncic if you're purely looking at size/athleticism i can kinda see it offensively, klay is probably a bit quicker/athletic but doncic is bigger, presumably stronger, and seemingly better at every on-ball skill other than shooting of course


like with basically all good prospects, it's pretty hard to find good comps because all the best players are unique. like when was the last time a top pick really mapped well onto an existing player? i can't think of many examples, in fact i can think of more examples of prospects seeming to compare well to certain nba players, or at least an established mould, only to end up sucking because the comparison probably made them look like a lot rosier prospects than they actually were

He seems like a very very rich man's Chandler Parsons, with much better handles and vision. Basically, a much better version of Chandler Parsons, so maybe that isn't a great comp.

Harden isn't fast, he plays at his own speed and he's so good at handling the ball that he doesn't even need to be fast

If you watch Doncic it's the same, he doesn't look fast doesn't look athletic but he's so crafty that the opponent is drawing dead at defending him once he start dribbling and moving

Thos guys plays like 80% slow, but the 20% "fast" they have just destroy opponent because they know how to use it perfectly when the defender is off-balance
