cliffs: guy thinks ayton is a bit stiff, while bagley shows all sorts of awesome fluidity/ballhandling for his size. he views bagley as having more offensive upside

You shut your mouth when you're talking about Dean's hot takes.

I thought Doncic was the best prospect since Lebron according to Dean? So in this draft we have two of the best draft prospects of all time?

He reassessed his opinion on Doncic. Doncic ended up only shooting 30% from 3.

Someone is gonna have to explain JJJ to me, I mean I don't even see how he's >Ayton nonetheless "the best prospect since Brow"

JJJ seems more coach-dependent than some of the other top prospects, but he has probably the most tappable talent.

JJ is a good prospect. Top 5 this year I think. But nothing about him screams best prospect in 7 years.

KAT was 2/8 from 3 at Kentucky.
JJJ shot 40% from 3 on 96 attempts.

KAT was 57% from 2, JJJ 60% from 2.

JJJ is quite a bit more athletic than KAT. Hes also a vastly superior defensive prospect than KAT was. JJJ 8.1 blocks/100, KAT had 6.7.

I mean what is the argument that KAT was a superior prospect to JJJ?

the only time i laugh at dean's hyperbole is how he'll do a complete 180 on some of them after like 1 summer league game

much better defender, established better shooter from 3

its like asking who you'd rather have in modern nba, a better version of bosh or a better version of drummond. it doesnt seem close (right now)

KAT didn’t foul nearly as much. Could be some subtle mental or physical advantages that made KAT >>> JJJ.

i still think doncic is best prospect since lebron cuz putting up his stats on volume against grown ass men at age 17 speaks way higher volumes than what everyone else is doing. highest floor by farrrrrr. 6'6 primary ballhandlers that do lebron/bird things, sure why not.

also today luka put up a 17/10/10 in 22 minutes and 100% fg%

jjj v kat as prospects is really interesting. kat seemed pretty damn perfect as a prospect imo. he really looked like a lock very good defender (altho jjj seems to have megaelite potential here) and it's very disappointing how crappy he's ended up. that said, while he's obviously a far superior offensive guy, he didn't really show thaaat much in college and has outperformed most expectations on that end. i can recall some people not really being super high on his offense coming out (i.e. not really believing his shooting because he barely shot jumpers at kentucky), it was some of his highschool versatility and thin slice flashes that made his offensive potential more evident i think

I found out Mo Bamba plays chess.

He's a top 3 prospect in this draft class now imo.

Plz to be falling to the KNACKS at #9.

Doncic so clutch he recorded a Triple double the day after Dean article dropping him to the 2nd spot

Nobody has posted the video the triple double Doncic game.

The dude handles have definitely improved, he looks nasty out there + that playmaking looks on point.

Doncic or Ben Simmons, who's the better prospect?

luka doncic, based on the videos ive seen, has just about a 0% chance of being a top tier player in the nba, and barely more than that of even being in that 5-15 second best tier. in the boom or bust world that the rules encourage, i dont see him being a good idea on a terrible franchise.

memphis would maybe make sense as a team that wants to put another playoff run together in the next year or two with a fully healthy squad, but what does a sacramento, atlanta, phx gain?

From the videos he looks like Klay Thompson with a much better handle & passing game. Doncic & Thompson are the same height & weight most likely, similar athletic ability, but Doncic has more game. He will be good. He plays very well beside Dearron Fox in Sacremento, would do well in Atlanta beside Dennis & he would do okay as a point forward in Phoenix.

Simmons is obviously the better prospect since we know for sure he's going to be sick in the NBA (yea no shot and all but passing and defense will remain elite).

Doncic can still go wrong or not as right as expected which is the case for every draft pick before they play in the NBA. Seriously, if there is a lesson to be learnt each year after the draft it is that prospects never translate automatic from pre-nba to the nba, do i need to make a list of all the sicks prospects who became busts or not as good ad advertised?
You have "draft pros" out there like Dean who qualify one prospect the best ever since lebron and then a few months later he's no longer the best prospect in his class.

Big luka fan but the variance of these things is a thing and nobody can be qualified a better prospect than an already established nba player before he's actually in the nba

klay thompson is one of the best shooters to ever play and has a super fast release. doncic looks to be a good but not necessarily elite shooter.

we also know klay can play at least passable defense. doncic probably can but its not a guarantee.

dont get me wrong, doncic looks really good, and i think he may very well have the best shot at being a top 30ish player in the nba.

but the fact that you're even comparing him to klay, who was at best a top 30ish player, is exactly my point.

of course he would help any of those teams, but those teams dont need help, they need to strike gold. none of those teams is doing anything without a super elite pickup.

Klay comparison is based on size only.

Doncic is more like Rubio/Harden. His handling/creation/vision is far better than Klay’s; his basketball mind is on Rubio’s level. The difficulty of 3s he takes are closer to Harden’s (lots off the dribble/unassisted) than Klay’s (spot-ups/assisted).

Capping his potential at worse than top-15 is monumentally dumb. He busts every now and then, is merely a good starter some percentage of the time, is ~Rubio a fair amount, is better than Rubio median, and has significant equity to make all-star teams.

As Dean has written, his outlier skill and performance in a better than college basketball league is a big data point, not to mention his performance against guys like Staps in the Euro is another good data point.

I’d rather have Doncic than Simmons.
