NBA Draft 2017 NBA Draft 2017

Giannis would the comparator; even so I'd assume all the guys are all exceptions. KD was much better his rookie year that I'd be a miracle for Ingram to be so good in his peak. I never expected Ingram to be so bad but JFC he was awful. For any Laker fans who've watched him, was there any shines of brilliance?

I don't see there's much chance of the Lakers coming bottom next year, but wp Philly for keeping whatever equity of that there is.

Spoiler:
@yellowfever - I know I owe you a reply on the Fultz #s, but I'll only get to it late this week

Ton of discussion on Slack today regarding the Philly/Boston trade

Some seem to think it's an embarrassing coup for Ainge, and that Fultz (or Ball if that's your guy) aren't elite top prospects, enough so to justify trading up with the additional 2018 pick.

Seems to me however, that Fultz and Lonzo are the only one ones I'd predict as elite players a reasonable amount of the time, so trading to #3 could be devastatingly bad. The easiest way to build contendors is to get #1 picks and use them when elite players come around.

Basically I don't think adding an average value #5 pick or w/e is worth going from Fultz/Ball to Josh Jackson, which seems to be the current narrative.

I'd say it's a huge win for Philly if Boston takes Jackson. BTW he will Ainge is a horrid prospect evaluator/drafter

It was basically me vs pip/hoya, and since one half of that combo is pip I feel great about my side

Also here's my board fwiw, since its that time of year to do that kinda thing. I've sweetened a ton on Ball as his statistics are just pretty f'n hard to ignore no matter how bad it can look on tape.

1. Fultz
gap
2. Ball
gap
3. Isaac
4. Fox
5. Markannen
gap
6. Jackson
7. Smith
8. Tatum
9. Anunoby
10. Monk

Also Jamal Murray wasn't bad as a rookie. He still has value IMO. I think taking Brown over Murray/Bender was a pretty clear mistake.
Staying all-in on Bender

Didn't you have him #1 on your board last year at some point?

Zach Lavine was terrible, Gary Harris was terrible as well. The latter did it under few minutes, but he had what could legit be seen as the worse rookie year ever, and is now on track to be a fringe all-star before his rookie contract is up. I think it bodes worse then they put up terrible numbers on a good team than Ingram sucking on a terrible one... I'm kind of high on Ingram for no rational reason other than the rare eye-popping moment every once in a while.

Bender is even worse than Jaylen if that's possible but in a ton less minutes.

Gary Harris was LOL bad as well in year 1; what a jump from years 1 to 3. Didn't think a guy could improve that much from straight up trash.

re: Jackson

Frame and length just make it really hard for me to see him ever working out as a 4. He's probably 200 lbs soaking wet.

And as a wing, I don't see the offensive skillset required or even close. His best NBA asset is probably wing defense immediately, but don't see him being able to guard multiple positions in his current frame, or contributing on offense as a wing player like at all outside some set shooting.

I mean, can someone paint the picture for how Josh Jackson becomes a Top 15 or 20 NBA player ever?

I agree. He has some skills but he isn't nearly toolsy enough for me to put him anywhere near the level that some are saying (def below Ball/Fultz).

Kiwi is a complete outlier and if you are banking on anyone making improvements like him good luck.. even with that said we're talking about a guy with ridiculous tools vs. someone who's average to slightly below.

6 inch difference in wingspan between kawhi and JJ. not gonna cut it.

Not to mention Kawhi is built like a truck and 1/3 of his wingspan are his hands... I know it's not often mentioned and have no way to quantify it, but I would think having ridiculously large mitts have to help when it comes to turning deflections into steals and bobbles into caught passes.

There are some similarities in their game, but Kawhi was already a more developed two way player even though his shooting wasn't quite there yet. JJ isn't a great wing creator.

Most importantly though, and the wingspan is important, but Kawhi has a WAY better frame for the NBA. He was like 230 and long out of college. JJ is maybe 200 pounds. It's just a really material difference.

How many bigs in the NBA have been successful at 200 lbs?

Also there's the whole thing whre Josh Jackson wasn't a wing at all in college

The first person that comes to mind when looking at Josh Jackson is Aaron Gordon, and I think he kind of suffers the same issues as AG. Given that he's not a young Freshman you can even compare him a bit to what would have been the second year of Jaylen Brown.

Maybe it's a leak on my part, but I'm just meh on guys who are not great at any particular one this except something that might not translate given their role in once they hit the NBA.

Fultz>Ball>>>Fox>Isaac>>>meh would be my list..

Except Aaron Gordon is in a stratosphere beyond JJ (and pretty much anyone else) of freak athlete and is also 20 lbs or whatever bigger

He is a fantastic defender and arguably great passer

I mean I still think there's a decent chance he's a solid NBA player, but think he's just too small a lot of the time for what his skillset plays to

There's also the thing where he's not really good at anything, most notably playing basketball.
