I doubt there has ever been a draft where Bruce freaking Bowen would go in the top 5. Not 2006. Not 2000.

This draft is not that weak. No draft is going to be that weak. Now, from what people are saying VO is much much better than Bowen, but that's the argument you make for him in the top 5. That he's better than Porter, or Bazzy, etc.

Not that he's the next Thabo/Bowen. If VO has Bowen's career, he will be perceived as a bust.

Name 5 players you'd take over Bowen from the 2000 draft.

The point of Bowen is being misrepresented too. If you are guaranteed a player that good, he's a lot more valuable in a draft setting. Other guys are going to end up being better, but even if there are plenty of guys with higher ceilings, in a draft like this where there's a lot of question marks, his value increases quite a bit.

I like Maclemore. That kid is impressive and you could tell he was playing not to get hurt most of the year at Kansas. Excited to see him turn it up a notch in the league.

Also, its a shame Noel got hurt when he did, they were starting to get better and i thought Cal was doing a decent job with that group

Mclemore said something along the lines of "I've never been a fighter" when asked about his lack of aggressiveness

not something i wanna hear out of a top prospect in the NBA

oh g'z, wtf does that even mean? he's not going to try hard enough?

dude probably has a decently below average IQ and doesn't even understand what he was saying and or being asked.

he can ball. hard.

it means his coach asked him to be more aggressive and he didn't want to do it

i believe that unless the bball fan can actually dribble themselves, they won't have the knowledge or capacity to evaluate a pro's ballhandling ability. i'm guessing that is the case here. you see him get in the lane and think, "see, his handle is fine." i look at it and see that he takes extra dribbles on the regular, and has none of the many subtleties of a true guard, like say paul pierce. oh, and did i say he is oc like a mf

basically, he does okay when he has a head of steam. no head of steam, planet oc, due to severe lack of refinement in his handle. draftexpress said he turned it over on 29% of his isos.

that being said, oladipo's athleticism will allow him to be a tony allen maybe even a bit better. pretty easy comparison. tony allen has better handles tho, but oladipo better form on his shot. or he'll be a quicker (but waaay crappier) version of bryant stith. stith with no semblance of a post game.

kinda funny to be smug about scouting and then compare the dude to bryant stith. if that was his median projection no one owuld be talking about him going in the first round, much less the higher part of the lotto

well, i thought about it a bit more. and now that i think of it, the way the game is nowadays with the high pnr's, the quick guard or forward penetrating the lane, then the defense having to collapse, then the ball swinging around and the defense always scrambling - the half court game in today's game is really like its transition. even though it is half court, it often plays like its transition.

so i must admit that often my scouting is based on the way the game used to be played. i'll concede that in today's game, a guy like oladipo who to me is more of an athlete than a skilled basketball player, could work and be effective to a greater extent than i currently envision. fwiw

i had the same issue scouting anthony davis, where back in the 80's or 90's, the dump-off guy was never more than a bench player or bit player. but guard penetration in today's game has been made easier due to the ball-handling improvement of players coupled with rule changes, which results in davis having far more offensive opportunities (still just dump-offs of some kind but just way more of them) than he would have back in the day.

oladipo is more of a beal/mclemore shooter and catch-and-go finisher, rather than an off-the-dribble playmaker like wall, westbrook, burke, paul pierce, guys like that.

but to me oladipo is a level (maybe two) below beal/mclemore in the shooting department.

Oladipo has averaged about 1.3 3PA a game in his 3 year stay at Indiana, and didn't even average 2 attempts a game this year when he took the most. Beal/Mclemore are guys who shoot 5+ 3s a game in college and tons of other perimeter shots. Oladipo doesn't really compare to either, even if he was efficient in low volume
