Sick call that a player recovering from a torn ACL didn't have an impact this year.

I know you were right about Dieng so far, and that's cool, but you also said he'd have a better career than Noel, and calling that after a season you knew Noel would miss due to injury is silly.

also like all of 2p2 was high on Dieng (with the possible caveat that it seemed like he was dropping due to knee/ankle issues and ppl didn't know what to make of it). sweet prediction and post by RAIDS tho.

edit:

lol at bragging about this prediction after this season, amazing.

also not to overplay this but it feels pertinent to mention/reiterate that Noel is 4 years and 3 months younger than Dieng.

reread some of this draft thread. main impression is still horror at that Pelicans trade.

And with good reason. Way to give up a young player and a pick in a loaded draft for the chance to win 33 games instead of 25-28 or whatever! Not like you have a young superstar whose prime you should be building your roster around or anything.

Gorgui far exceeded popular expectations. The point isn't that he had a better year than Noel--although to be fair, some of the top rooks this year provided less value than Noel--it's that he now projects to be a plus starter on a playoff caliber team, while Noel is still a largely unknown commodity whose median expectation is less than Gorgui's. Which was my point all along. I would not at all be surprised if Noel has a better career than Gorgui. Just don't think it happens > 50% of the time.

Das Boot,

No one was nearly as high as me on Gorgui. Nice history rewrite. See you're still carrying Noel's water. Good thing his game isn't reliant on explosiveness. Lol u as well.

Yes, because no one is insane/would have taken him over a big who had better pedigree, potential, athleticism, and who was 51 months young. Everybody thought it was a great pick by the Wolves and that he was undervalued/a very strong prospect.

Noel was the best prospect at the time of the draft and nothing has changed since then, so why would I be lower on him now?

edit: I mean this is distracting from the main thing, which is that bully for RAIDS for being more right regarding Gorgui, but just lol at making any conclusions about the relative value of their careers after this season.

the great thing about raids is that even in posts where he's specifically boasting about being right his correctness rate is approx 34%. lolraids

nb: i offered to bet on the gorgui/nerl thing and raids slunk out, then boasted literally posts later in the same thread. lolraids yet again

I agree that Noel was the most talented prospect at the time of the draft, but he got red-flagged by highly respected Suns trainer Aaron Nelson, who signed off on Alex Len, another big who had injury issues.

For you to minimize the opinion of someone with much more knowledge than you regarding the nature of Noel's injury, especially in light of Gorgui's vindicating performance, is telling. Resorting to name-calling casts further light on the quality of your opinion.

meanwhile len has had 2 surgeries since being drafted and played 41 games, nice job suns. this stuff is inexact obviously

anyway you are getting rabidly furious again so i'll just pt out that nobody thought dieng sucked, some were higher on nerl than others. that's it. lol at getting on your high horse about intellectual honesty

wait, are we assuming that nerlens was a disappointment? i thought philly not playing him was all part of the tank. here's a rotoworld blurb from march 12th:

Quote:
Nerlens Noel scrimmaged 4-on-4 for the first time during Tuesday's practice, and he earned rave reviews from his teammates.
"One of the times we were going at each other," said Thaddeus Young, "[Noel] altered the shot, I got the rebound and he was back off his feet again ... He's very quick off his feet. He could probably go three or four times before somebody jumps twice." Sixers coach Brett Brown already shot down any idea of Noel playing this season, while harping on the need for Noel to get stronger and rebuild his shot mechanics, but he'll be an intriguing fantasy option on a young Sixers team next season. Mar 12 - 9:50 AM
it sounds like the sixers were like lol competitive reps, we are going to focus on his body and shooting mechanics since we don't value winning games now anyway. i don't see any indications that he had a setback in his recovery or anything. he was medically cleared to play jan 15 and prob could have gotten back on the court if the sixers wanted him to.

If by "We" you mean "The guy trying to score forum points," then yeah. If you mean "NBA fans on SE in general," then no.

Dean,

I realize that Philly was holding Noel back. Forgive me for looking at teammates' opinions of his performance in a sheltered private work out with a jaundiced eye. He was never a super-elite prospect to begin with, and the effects of his injury are not even close to being fully felt.

Nath,

You're projecting.

moreover the point was that brett brown seemed focused on having him overhaul his shooting mechanics and add strength rather than get him competitive reps.

also according to VJL's draft model, here are the prospects from the past 30 years who rate higher than NERL statistically

1) Brow
2) Shaq
3) Admiral
4) Dream

not to mention that he was the #2 RSCI player and played for a college team that was pretty good w/ him and horrendous w/o him.

gorgui had injury concerns too which hurt his stock. for all we know nerlens will be perfectly healthy and beast next year. or maybe his knee is his undoing, but i do not think now is the time to load up on short NERL equity

Let's play SORT BY VJL'S MODELZ

Otto Porter and Cody Zeller are nipping at NERL's heels in expected win shares and Gorgui is 41st.

The track record for his EWS methodology is highly spotty. He misses on tons of high picks, doing basically as well as lolGMs.

Even for his comparisons to Noel he has Anthony Davis, Benoit Benjamin, Eddie Griffin, Emeka Okafor, and Tyrus Thomas.

Basically, and this was a point I made when I was reviewing our analysis of the Assani ranking assets draft, serious knee injuries for players that are dependent on explosiveness tend to recur and have a high tendency to derail careers.

It's part of the reason I'm selling my BLED stock right now.
