these are all shockingly good rankings. i guess he prob gets some pretty good info by just taking the mean average input of NBA teams.

i'm in awe of how historically efficient chad ford's big boards are. they look clearly superior to actual draft order. his 2006 is sick, he has rondo 6th (21st irl) lowry 10th (24th) millsap 13th (47th) leon powe 24th (49th) jj barea 33rd (undrafted)

in the other direction he had admo 9th (3rd) shelden 19th (5th) hilton armstrong 28th (12th) mouhammad sene 29th (10th) quincy douby 36th (19th)

i can't find a year where his rankings appear to be < actual outcome. i feel shocked, guy actually makes great big boards.

i feel like something's up- like he edits these boards throughout the players' rookie years or something. i'm looking at his draft commentary to see how it aligns with his rankings, here's what he said about the hornets picking david west in 2003:
Quote:
Ford's Take: Not a bad pick. He's kind of a shorter version of P.J. Brown. But why not take a flier here on Brian Cook? Cook is taller, a more well-rounded player, and could help stretch defenses with his perimeter skills. West will be a solid player. But at No. 18 you could get so much more.
He had West ranked 10th and Cook ranked 30th. He called Brian Cook a "great pick" for the Lakers. So what gives? Does he have an autistic savant doing his boards for him or are they doctored after an NBA sample size or what?

pretty sure there's just hits and misses when you're projecting 18-22 year olds for an NBA career

that's not the point- he says the hornets should have taken his 30th ranked prospect (cook) over his 10th ranked prospect (west). makes you question when the rankings were actually last updated.

ETA- his 2006 draft grades seem to align with his rankings, however:

nice catch. is there a way to definitively know if they've been changed or not?

It only makes sense if you think Adams is going to be good. I think there's a pretty good chance Leonard and Adams both turn out to be stiffs. They should just take Bazzy.

WHERES NOZE?!

Chad Ford's draft board re: Pelicanz:

"They love Porter, but it's doubtful he'll still be there at No. 6, and after Dario Saric withdrew from the draft on Monday, there aren't any other small forwards to be really excited about. They like Trey Burke and Michael Carter-Williams, but sources continue to say they believe Austin Rivers still can make the transition to point guard."

I was there on that fateful morning on May 22, 2003, when Darko Milicic blew away Detroit general manager Joe Dumars and the Pistons staff in an impromptu workout at John Jay Gym in Manhattan. I was blown away, too.

Darko just happened to be doing a light workout in the gym adjacent to where the Pistons were practicing for a playoff series against the Nets. You can read the full story here, but suffice it to say that Milicic's workout, combined with the Pistons winning the No. 2 pick in the lottery later that night, sealed the deal for Darko.

While it turned out to be the biggest mistake of Dumars' career, at the time it made a lot of sense. The Pistons needed size and Darko was a freak of nature. The majority of NBA GMs had him No. 2 on their draft boards.

Darko's first in-person audition and his more formal workout in Detroit a few weeks later were incredible. He was so impressive that the only player the Pistons really considered taking at No. 2 other than Darko was Georgia Tech freshman Chris Bosh. The Pistons loved Bosh, but wanted a true center, and Bosh was more of a hybrid big. With Tayshaun Prince already looking like the small forward of the future in Detroit, the Pistons never seriously considered Carmelo Anthony.

Unfortunately for the Pistons, Darko's workout turned out to be the high point of his career. His rookie season was uneventful, as Darko was dubbed the Human Victory Cigar for a successful Detroit team. Pistons coach Larry Brown destroyed Darko's confidence throughout the season, and Milicic brooded and quit working hard. In his third year in the league, Darko was traded to the Orlando Magic for a draft pick that ended up becoming Rodney Stuckey.

In retrospect, Wade would've been the best choice for the Pistons even though they didn't really have a need in the backcourt -- at the time, a 27-year-old Chauncey Billups and a 25-year-old Rip Hamilton formed one of the best duos in the NBA. Wade could've thrived in Detroit as a third guard and eventually supplanted Hamilton.

In Miami, Wade has gone on to win three NBA titles and an NBA Finals MVP award. He has made the All-Star team nine times and will go down as one of the most dynamic scorers the NBA has ever seen. He surely would've given the Pistons a more lethal backcourt and perhaps would've kept the Pistons in title contention for a decade.

Yea, I mean

"Yeah Austin Rivers ****ing blows and we're taking Burke if he's available" doesn't really seem like the type of thing that makes guys want to play for your organization.

Yeah, in 2011 he gave GSW a C+ for drafting Klay Thompson too early at 11, but he's listed at #8 on their big board. He had Vuc as #17 on the big board but gave the 76ers a C for drafting him at 16.

He gave the Kings an A for taking #13 Jimmer at 10(and he specifically notes he would've also liked him at 7 before that terrible trade).

He gave the Wizards an A for drafting #11 Vesely at 6 and Chris Singleton(not in the top 20) at 18.

Ford says the Thunder, Wolves, and Blazers are trying to get the #1. Thunder kind of a surprising team there. Not sure what they could be offering or who they want so badly.
