Daigneault thinks you have to play 10 players or more every game. He finally figured out not to give Hayward any minutes and instead plays equally worthless Kendrich Williams 8 minutes. That's way worse than playing Giddey. But yeah, 8 man rotation and maybe some spot minutes for Giddey seemed like the optimal playoff lineup like...4 months ago. I don't understand what he's doing at all.

It feels like SGA may have carried this guy long enough that he is gonna stumble into the right lineup by game 5. Start Wiggins, Wallace is your 6th man getting like 30 mins, JWill backup C, Joe gets instant offense minutes when 1 of Kyrie/Luka isn't out there and then maybe Giddey gets like 3-4 mins a half when SGA is sitting for some extra ballhandling playmaking.

The depth isn't that bad. The depth would be more than fine if they had OG, Randle, Mitch and Bogey. Thibs doesn't want to play 11 guys anyway, especially in the playoffs.

The coach is fine. The Knicks got a 2 seed out of a play-in contender roster. Thibs has done an amazing job and gotten more out of this group than any other coach should.

I agree signing an old big name would be terrible, like it is when most teams sign them and I'm amazed NBA GMs still give up assets, never mind gutting their future, to pay over the hill stars ridiculous money. But I don't think Leon will do that. The ideal scenario is to move Randle but I doubt anyone in the league wants him. Regardless Thibs has been fine, the depth has been fine and if OG doesn't get hurt the Knicks win this series easy

Randle had a freak injury where he fell on his shoulder, not Thibs related.
Batum dove onto Bogie's wrist which was also a freak injury, not Thibs related.
Embiid literally yanked Mitch down from the air while laying on the court violently, leading to his ankle injury, again not Thibs related.

but OG was hamstring which is usually an overuse injury

I think the flip side to that argument is if they didn't go balls to the wall, they just would've probably lost to Philly.

But the next rd you're playing the Pacers who are like the 16th best team in the NBA. You've got a decent margin for error here, especially late game if everyone is healthy. At that point I think it clearly would've made sense to reset and get more guys in the rotation. Burks can't play vs the Pacers? Well, looks like he can based on game 3. This isn't the 2017 Warriors here who are just going to roast every marginal roleplayer.

Would that have saved OG? Who knows, but coaching vs Indy like every game is game 7 of the finals definitely seems wrong to me.

freak injuries are also a thibs thing, because a guy playing 40 minutes per game instead of 32 is going to be subjected to 25% more injury-causing incidents. maybe more because of fatigue effects etc. it's much harder to get injured when you're sitting on the bench, and then those extra freak incidents are happening to less important players.

yes not every single thing is his fault, like if a guy breaks his **** 5 minutes into a game, but it accumulates based on his load management philosophy. live with the results
