My favorite Rakim song, Mahogany: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EocYZTB0Sc

I'm pretty excited about the hip-hop labels in this draft. Only a few people are taking those artists, so there will be amazing value available. There are 4 guys who I really hope get drafted. Outrage will follow if not, ofc.

no doubt, curious who is on your outrage list. Some sick value out there, although needle is doing something weird now. Dye has this on lock imo, unless Needle turns the page and does something drastic.

Actually 5, I forgot a very important one.

I'll definitely keep everyone updated on my outrage list.

Just looked at the spreadsheet: Needle really is doing some weird ****

Ah, not too bad pick then I didn't know if anybody had him on the radar or not. I haven't listened to much opera but I do like it quite a bit. Every now and then maybe once a month I just listen to some opera all night. Don't know anything about it other than it sounds spectacular. Er, the good stuff anyways pretty much blows everything else away in terms of just the human voice.

German is the best sounding opera language though imo

More things about and by Brian Eno:

First, some ambient music to take you into the evening

Something less ambient

He plays keyboard, synthesizer, writes songs, arranges, produces, and be called on to play guitar or bass in a pinch.

Here's a Roxy Music tune made while Eno was a member

I don't want to link to too many things he produced, because I'll give away too many undrafted musicians, but how about I remind you of the work he did with David Bowie on the Berlin Trilogy? Let's not forget the Talking Heads (live version, sure, but he co-wrote it, and produced the album it's from) and U2. (and some more U2.)

Also, I bet you didn't know this, but he created the startup sound for Windows 95.

What a badass.

I love Rakim. He's great, but I think you coulda got him 2 rounds later at least; nobody was gonna grab him.

That said, amazing lyricist. And nobody has posted my favorite Eric B & Rakim song yet.

yeah probably true, which was partially why the pick caught me off guard, but the dude is awesome. He's like Nas, but 5-8 years earlier imo. He still put great music throughout the 90's too.

Sigh....hip hop use to be awesome.

Is the "weird" **** I'm doing really bad or just bad or plain awful? I couldn't let Frankie fall and Bennett needed to be drafted as well. I have a pick that probably makes more sense lined up for the next round. I really like my studio, I'd listen to that **** nonstop.

Round 4 Pick 79

Spoiler:
Phil Collins

As the lead vocalist/drummer for Genesis, Phil Collins helped guide the band to immense popularity during the 1980s. Collins is certainly a bit different than my first 3 picks, but he is a fantastic musician and figures to fit well with Winwood and Garcia, which is cool for collaboration purposes, but most importantly here, is that Collins' solo career is also extremely successful. Not only was he the driving force behind Genesis becoming one of the most popular bands in the 1980s, but his solo career was epic.

Quote:
His concurrent solo career, heavily influenced by his personal life, brought both him and Genesis commercial success. According to Atlantic Records, Collins's total worldwide sales as a solo artist, as of 2002, were 150 million.[3] He has won seven Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and two Golden Globes for his solo work.
Quote:
Collins is one of only three recording artists (along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson) who have sold over 100 million albums worldwide both as solo artists and (separately) as principal members of a band.[4] According to Billboard, when his work with Genesis, his work with other artists, as well as his solo career is totalled, Collins has the most top 40 hits on the Billboard charts for the 1980s
I definitely feel like this is good value, and I am very happy to add Phil Collins to my studio

Keith Richards
Steve Winwood
Jerry Garcia
Phil Collins

I'm surprised Fogerty isn't getting more love.

Here's a list of song off the top of my head, all of them I believe (except for Grapevine) written by Fogerty, both music and lyrics. These are songs that have stood the test of time. All these songs (and many more) are listened to today some 40 years after they were written and will likely be listened to 100 years from now for the same reason people will listen to the Beatles 100 years from now - the music is just so sweet and easy to listen to, feel good music at it's best.

Then again, the average age in this forum being what it is, I wouldn't be surprised if most here thought that Proud Mary, perhaps his most famous song was written by someone else, I have ran into this a lot.

Born on The Bayou
Suzie Q
Proud Mary
Green River
Bad Moon Rising
Lodi
Heard It Through The Grapevine
Down on The Corner
Fortunate Son
Travelin' Band
Who'll Stop The Rain
Up Around The Bend
Sweet Hitchhiker
Hey Tonight
Have You Ever Seen The Rain
Looking Out My Back Foor

Fogerty is as good an example of a one man band as there is in this draft, he wrote all the music and lyrics, was the lead singer and lead guitar player as well as the producer for the band, simply incredible. Draft Fogerty, you get CCR in it's entirety and more.

I've been wondering for days now when he would go, only reason I can think of why he didn't get picked earlier was that after CCR split up he faded away for a long time before coming back. It doesn't have to be that way though for the purposes of this draft.

Again, really surprised at the meh reaction, Fogerty is so awesome.

IMO one of the best value picks in the draft, early second rounder in my book.

I have never thought of CCR as southern rock though, more like a genre all to their own "Bayou Rock" perhaps. Southern rock I associate firstly with a group of undrafted artists.

People like Bon Jovi drafted before Fogerty, sheesh!

I can't pick my favorite CCR song, there's like 5 of them or more that are totally equal. Or I can but would change my mind the next day.

there is not a ccr or fogerty song i have come across that i dont like. i still hear rando fogerty on the local or college public radio and im like this is a great song wonder who made it and yawn its fogerty or ccr.

in terms of personal favorite artists he goes super high.

only qualm is commercial success and range. even now his solo songs are similar sounding to ccr stuff. not that i care. just that from a marketing standpoint it may be a neg.

funny thing is the beatles and stones and dead are super easily recognizable but its a good thing for them bc i guess they can just morph into other styles. its like, this song is the stones doing blues, and this stones doing hard rock. they nail em but u know its the stones. from modern artists beck may be the best at it. his range is absurd but its really ez to know if its a beck song.

for fogerty, its always the same style and sound.
