Spector kinda rules. I thought he was early 2nd round material.

Really not getting the Tyler hate.

Oh well, headed off to happy hour now. I thought I'd have to defend that pick a little but it looks like if anyone is gonna rip it it'll be now that I'm gone, lol.

You'll have to PM me who pudge is talking about, because I'm drawing a blank. I still don't see much difference between he and petty. I personally like petty a lot more, but doesn't change the fact that aerosmith was one of the hugest bands of the 80s with hugely successful rebirth in the 90s. And Tyler was a key drivin force in that.

Does the split song writing really cost him that much? I get that sole writing credit is a big deal, but I think it gets a tad overrated. Sure, townshend's writing is important, but it's clear from his bland solo work that the rest of the band wa keybin filling in the gaps and making the songs work. To a much lesser extent, same goes for the heartbreakers. And if it really means that much, yorke seems spewey.

I think the sole vs. shared songwriting argument is definitely a case by case basis. Some songwriters are garbage solo and somehow become magical when in a room w/the right cast of characters (see the many failed side projects over the course of music history).

I'm not sure w/Tyler, maybe I believe Petty is better as an individual because he's much more of a musician, and his situation seems like star + supporting cast, whereas Tyler seems pretty closely linked w/an undrafted guitar player.

Spoiler:
Sorry Wrane

With pick #69, FR and I select the lead man and lead brother of the Bee Gees, Barry Alan Crompton Gibb. From a pure value standpoint, I don't think there's a better musician available. Why, you ask? Just look at any of the Billboard charts during the Bee Gees' hayday. Wikipedia does a pretty good job explaining just how awesome he's been.

The Bee Gees rank sixth on the all-time top-sellers list. Only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Paul McCartney have outsold the brothers Gibb. The trio's contribution to Saturday Night Fever pushed the film's soundtrack pass the 40 million mark in sells. It reigned as the top-selling album in history until Michael Jackson's Thriller. They are the only group in pop history to write, produce, and record six straight #1 hits. They have sixteen Grammy nominations and nine Grammy wins.

As a songwriter, working alone and with his brothers, Gibb has had great success. In 1978, he had five songs simultaneously in the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100, and for one week in March, four of the top five songs were written by him. His songs were #1 for 27 out of 37 weeks from December 24, 1977 to September 2, 1978. Gibb has had #1 songs in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

Gibb has written and produced successful albums for [lots of awesome undrafteds].

The Bee Gees are inductees of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Some Bee Gees/Barry Gibb flavored Disco/Pop:

Massachusetts

How Deep is Your Love

Man In The Middle

Jive Talkin'

There are obv a bunch more but I don't have time to list them all. Oh, and in addition to his singing/songwriting/producing, Gibb also has the ability to host a critically acclaimed talk show with his undrafted brother.

Label so far:
Elton John
Billy Joel
Celine Dion
Barry ****ing Gibb

Great pick - I was considering him as early as round 2. The guy is a hit machine.

Gibb is sick value here. There's no arguing with the commercial success plus I can't think of anyone else who has written disco music that I actually enjoy listening to. Saturday Night Fever is pure genius.

Also, Jive talking is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Gibb also has written hit songs outside of disco - Heartbreaker (R&B, recorded by undrafted) and Islands In The Stream (country, pair of undrafteds).

I know who undrafted I now, and I agree it's lol for Tyler to go ahead of him. However, it's dishonest calling petty much more of a musician than Tyler. Tyler is a crazy talented multi-instrumentalist.

Not really sure why I'm putting this much time into defending Tyler; I'm not a big fan of his music. But I do think biases are selling him short.

I'd say very good pick.

this, although i think if you're looking for a female vocalist there's a better one out there (that could easily be undrafted)

also liked the timbaland pick, works so well

Jagger is sick value here. Hugely underrated IMO as a singer, half of one of the all time rock song composing teams, one of the most charismatic and energetic front men ever ...

WTF with Grind drafting Richards in the first round and not taking Jagger in the third (or even the second) round?

Would people be up for that after this one is over? The rules were "no greatest hits, no live albums, no bootlegs...otherwise any album may be drafted.'
I would 100% be down for this. I actually had a draft idea somewhat similar to that, and well this one, where we pick albums to make a label. I thought it would be pretty fun, but this one has been great so far. I think this may go down as the most popular draft in SE for a while.
