My sister's birthday is the day John Lennon was shot. Wikipedia says it's also the day Sammy Davis Jr. was born.

Hey, I also share my birthday with Frank AND Kathie Lee Gifford! And Steve Carell! And I share the exact date and year with... uh... Taylor Rain.

personal Fugazi faves of mine:
Give me the Cure
Reclamation
Full Disclosure

and holy ****ing **** does Guy (the other fugazi singer) look a ****ing ****load like Bobbo.

i saw MacKaye's newest band, the Evens (him and his gf/wife, first album was good but nothing spectacular) when they were first getting started out. Some church in DC with a friend I was visiting. They're pretty basic, low fi rock type stuff. Like this. There was this young kid, maybe 12 or 13, with the mohawk and studs and all that. Clearly his parents were from back in the day and were taking the kid to see the legend. Ian asked if there were any requests. The kid said, "play some punk rock songs!" Ian replied, "these are punk rock songs." I laughed.

Not sure if you were making a joke, but I'd definitely put it as more likely than not.

I think Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is the best guitar song of all time. Sooooo sick.

Its just a song you want to turn up to 11 and smash something before downing four shots of whiskey and smokin a doobie.

It's hard to practice Hendrix living in an apartment complex. It just doesn't sound right if it isn't cranked to 11.

I can't fathom trying to practice the song on anything less than 11. Anything less strikes me as completely unworthy.

Acoustic Hendrix can be nice with right tunes (Little Wing). Voodoo Child certainly isn't one of them.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is the only person I've heard do a good cover of the song. His voice actually kind of matches it.

SRV version

I like Robert Randolph versions too, even though they don't sing on it: Robert Randolph Band (not great audio unfortunately)

I think someone should have taken a Can guy and then just give the most awesome 1-2 album opening combo ever:

Paperhouse
Mushroom(Head)

big disappointment that no one found a place for Beth MFing Gibbons either

Rolling Stone did a list of best guitar songs that I listened to. As usual, the list was terrible, but it was fun to go through all of them.

My favorite part of the list was they put "Dig Me Out" at #44 (which I'm sure is random as hell to most people) because they realized there were no women on the list other than Joan Jett. They also inexplicably had songs like "People Get Ready" high on the list when they have almost no discernible guitar whatsoever.

I was first exposed to Hendrix my freshman year of college, and up until that point I wasn't much of a guitar rock fan because most of it was like just dick-rock crap like Bon Jovi and whatever (sorry fans). But then I heard Voodoo Child -- actually, the first time I heard it was in a movie. I was watching In the Name of the Father with Daniel Day-Lewis and towards the beginning in the movie he is air-guitaring the opening solo and then jumps off a roof and when his feet hit the dirt the riff begins on the downbeat. I was floored. When I found out who it was I got the Hendrix greatest hits CDs and got into him as a fan, but Voodoo Child remained my favorite guitar song.

EDIT: Here's the scene. I remembered it wrong; it's when the cops first shoot at him that the riff starts.

I was wondering if Wolf would be drafted. On one hand, blues musicians were largely ignored ITT but on the other hand Muddy Waters was drafted and Wolf has similar value so I thought maybe he'd be picked. Lots of blues greats went undrafted though, same for Jazz musicians, for the most part this turned into a pop/rap music draft which makes sense considering the demographic here.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has to be the biggest omission though. Whoever pointed him out claimed he was first round value and I don't think anyone disagreed with him.

Being a huge Rolling Stones fan I would have given some consideration to Brian Jones and Mick Taylor but for the most part the undrafted artists I made note of a few rounds ago got picked finally. Some that didn't were Derek Trucks, Paul Butterfield, Johnny Winter, Charlie Daniels and Tracy Chapman.

Glad to see Carole King get drafted, now that would have been a glaring omission.

And Jerry Lee Lewis should have gotten more love IMO. Like tons more. He could have gone many rounds earlier. His value ITT is not THAT much less than Elvis IMO.
