still loads of talent left, and I must reiterate my huge WTF @ not-Bob-Dylan going #1

Dylan has an absurd peak and absurd longetivity. Dude also invented rap on Subterranean Homesick Blues. He's the clear GOAT songwriter. He has 3 peaks of creative genius as he restyled his music, from youthful protest to heartbreak and soulache to nostalgia of age. His career spans almost 50 years of greatness, topicality and relevance.

I look forward to further facemelters.

Oh, man, I didn't even mention Dylan's rapping in my writeup. Crazy oversight by me.

Brian Wilson is the f*cking man.

Hendrix great pick. Wilson pretty good too.

Hendrix and Dylan biggest value picks so far imo. J-Timberlake, Boss and Cobain all slight reaches.

I honestly have no idea how to grade the Cobain pick. I don't like Nirvana but everyone loves them. And it seems he was the integral part with them. So I just plead the fif.

I think it was a slight reach on my part, but he puts my label in the direction I really wanted to go in and is a clear first round talent imo.

I'm kind of realizing I definitely should have moved back. I guess I didn't expect it to be all bandish guys in the first(and I shouldn't have done my writeup at the start of the draft so when Hova was there I woulda been pissed if I traded back and had wasted the time making the writeup lol).

I'm not so sure of this. It is clear, however, that he isn't anything like a spew. Like people have been saying, this draft is really deep. The marginal difference between mid first round and mid second round talents isn't going to be very big imo.

Spoiler:
Round 1 - Pick 11

Justin Timberlake

Pure value wise, Timberlake is probably still a slight reach at this point, but he is the perfect fit for my studio's eventual overall plan. Part of that plan is to become a pop music machine. While there are some picks that would be better here from a pure pop standpoint, Timberlake is one of the biggest names around in pop music. His last album Future Sex/Love Sounds set the record on Itunes for most preorders and for most digital copies sold in 1 week. It had 3 #1 singles, the album debuted at #1 and Timberlake won two grammys for it.

Some of the other reasons I am drafting him this early will make themselves clear as my future picks are made (no I'm not trying to create a boy band, so you can at least put that thought out of your head).

Timberlake's personality and abilities make him the perfect person to be the face of our label. He is a goofball who will not only get his face out there with his music but with his acting abilities. He is an accomplished singer, songwriter, dancer, producer, essentially a jack of all trades, and will make himself very valuable not only on his own music but as a collaborative artist.

then this is epic fail not to take madonna with your original #4 pick. and you proly still get jt in the 2nd.

lol @ jameee entrance music for the Beach Boys not being a Beach Boys song

Hendrix was a top 5 pick imo.
Brian Wilson is a good pick, he is an incredible songwriter/vocalist.

i just skimmed through this draft checking out the picks and i am very tilted that my guy hasn't been taken. i would've taken him anywhere in the first round that i could have, and i think there's a pretty legit shot that he's #1 overall worthy.

i guess it just shows how deep this draft is, but it makes me wish i would have joined just to draft him and do a writeup.

Hendrix is obviously a great pick and >> Page imo. Being a 12-13 year old guitar player and hearing Hendrix for the first time was mindblowing. Even today I still have to listen to Machine Gun every now and then just to take me back to that time in my life. There's only one other guitarist who had a similar impact on me and I'm hoping I can snap him up with my 3rd-4th pick.

i don't want to mention undrafteds, but there was a band that HEAVILY influenced Nirvana(Kurt even called Nirvana a ripoff of this band at several points) and I think their music was just as good but never got as insanely popular.

Right, but that band had two members that drove them.

If it's who I'm thinking of, then yeah, they are really good, but I still think Kurt as a songwriter is just the absolute nuts.

Their live album absolutely crushes as well.
Most people would never mention this as one of their favorites, but its my favorite Nirvana song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xeas...feature=avmsc2

I think Cobain is a definite spew - suicide-prone, short peak, music that might not stand the test of time, plenty of similar musicians

I think its about time someone moves away from music of the spoken word and take an instrumentalist sometime.

Lots of anti-Foreign US imperialism itd imo

Did they? If we're talking about the same band, a quick check on allmusic suggests that one member was responsible for nearly all their songwriting.

I had Michael Jackson #1 overall. I'm kind of grunching, but, MJ fill the 3 biggest criteria for me:

1) Commercial success
2) Critical success
3) Fits incredibly well in modern music.

The only person who fits better in modern music that has been drafted is Jay-Z, I think. But Michael created so much of what we think of as modern (see: Justin Timberlake).

Madonna was good at 7, of course.

ya while other member is certainly talented, main member should def be getting vast majority of credit for work they did while together.

I can't wait for the first person to use Pitchfork Media as a reference for their pick.
