But I mean you already have JPJ, if you're going to draft a drummer I think you should have taken the obvious pick anyway just for symmetry's sake if nothing else since he too has a strong claim to GOAT rock drummer, even the Modern Drummer magazine which you referenced said he's "the greatest rock 'n' roll drummer in history", and you know the chemistry between him and JPJ is there.
I'll abstain from talking about undrafted because I don't want to influence opinions one way or another. And obviously, being a huge Rush fanboy, Peart was always going to be my no. 1 drummer preference. But I really do believe he is the GOAT, due to longevity, chops and the willingness to improve and expand his drumming IQ.

Before recording Counterparts in 1993, Peart started studying with Freddie Gruber who's basically the Yoda of drums and probably the world's most prestigious teacher. The end result was Peart completely reinventing his style, moving back to traditional grip, grooving with a jazz sensibility that hadn't been present in probably over a decade for that band and laying down some incredible tracks. For a drummer like Peart, about 20 years into his career at that point and already established as the best of the era, to go through that process in an attempt to improve even more...well to me, it says a lot about the man's drive to be the very best and his unwillingness to stagnate as a musician and artist. This is the kind of self-assessment that has been a hallmark of Peart's almost 40 year career with Rush. He's never satisfied, which is a fantastic trait to have if you're serious about your craft.

I really didn't know when the first pure drummer (not Collins ldo) was supposed to go, so I just assumed whoever broke the ice would get some lulz and such.

+1 to Peart being the GOAT

TSC and I have discussed drummers and when they should go and the only thing I had to say was that Pearl is GOAT and I don't know when he should go.

Nothing more to say, than i agree 100% percent.

I really can't find a point of making a song about ladyparts and carwheels.

OTOH Label fit is being overstated (as it often has been), and I still have eight more picks. Jackson's great because he doesn't have to fit; he can just do his thing.
Fair enough about the coherence thing, and JJ can obviously work on his own (with session big band or whatever).

I actually always found JJ a more sympathetic character than EC - I think I was just surprised that (i) anyone had heard of him and (ii) thought that there was a decent chance of his going soon. Certainly not a bad artist to have on a label - & an interesting choice - just probably not one I'ld have made.

I think it was a great pick. Easily top 2 value of the round with RZA being the other.

I just meant that in terms of songwriting undrafted was just as important as Hetfield which is why I think he dropped so far. He is also good/great guitarist and a decent singer with a very distinctive voice and style.

I watched Under Great White Northern Lights for about the 5th time yesterday. It's a documentary following the 2007 White Stripes tour of Canada.

After watching it again, I think even more about how much of a steal Jack White was at 27.

Then next thing ya know, she starts goin real wild
And screamin my name
And then I said baby, we must slow down
Before I bust a vessel in my brain
She said please no dont stop
And I said I caught a cramp
Then she said please keep on goin
I said my leg is about to crack
Then she cries out
Oh my goodness, I'm about to climax
And I said cool
Climax
Just let go of my leg
She says you're the perfect lover
I said I cant go no futher
Then I flip back the cover
Oh my God, a rubber...

I might be heading out all day, so I'm gonna send your top-2 choices to someone who isn't picking before your picks (i think TSC fits this bill and is online right now, so maybe him). So if you see this and you changed your mind about that shortlist here's your chance to jump in and stop things. Otherwise you might just be getting those two people. Cheers!

Jack White is the frontman of the most or second most successful (commercially and critically) band of the aughts. I don't think it is a spew at all.

To follow up on nyc's writeup...

A lot of people know Moby, obviously, for Play -- but he had a long career before that and was a singularly influential musician in the American dance music scene. He also did an album of hard rock in which his guitar talents were well on display. His songwriting is loaded with variety, his live performances are terrific (I first saw him about 10 years ago in L.A. and was blown away), and he's also a very cool guy (I was lucky enough to interview him for a rock mag backstage of a concert he did with David Bowie in 2003 and he was the nicest guy ever).

Britain has had most of the major figures in dance music for the last 20 years, but Moby is indisputably the most important musician in the American scene. From about 1992-2004 he was on top of the world for that genre.

Some listening links for your Sunday:

Next Is the E (****ing awesome dance track)
Go (chill)
All That I Need Is To Be Loved (heavy metal)
Into the Blue (relaxed beat, female vocals)
God Moving Over the Face of the Waters (from the Heat soundtrack, piano-driven awesomeness)
Come On Baby (mean, loud, punk)
That's When I Reach For My Revolver (rock cover song)
Honey (groovy)
Natural Blues (gospel)
Machete (upbeat dance)
My Weakness (prayer-hymn sadness)
Run On (aww yeah)
Extreme Ways (more chill dance grooves)
Life Me Up (anthemic rocktronica)
Spiders (melodic single)

Basically, there's nothing this guy doesn't do, and he sells multimillions of records, #1s all over the place, plus he spear-headed a movement in pop music.

plus he's got two other pretty cool bands...

(and he basically IS the White Stripes, the front man, the lead guitarist, the lead singer, the leader/captain, he does all the interviews as undrafted doesn't seem to like talking, should be no debate on that one, lol)
