In defense of the Rihanna pick. She's had 7 #1 hits since 2005, more than any other artist in that time period. There's no reason to think she wouldn't repeat that kind of output teamed up with Timbaland and the other creative minds on my label. You guys all just love to hate because I'm doing something with my label you don't like, even though mine will be wildly popular.

I'm trying to get my label to hit a bunch of markets and the teens/young adults is relatively untapped demographic so far in this draft.
I'm 21 so I'm considered a young adult, and Billy Joe isn't really hit the teen market anymore. He was relevant in the early 2000's when Warning came out and Green Day blew up but I dunno your probably better off drafting a number of other undrafteds if your trying to aim for the Teen/Tween Market. I just cant take Billy Joe seriously when he started wearing eyeliner because a bunch of other undrafted although never gonna be drafted in a million years were doing it. Pretty ugh in my opinion.

Early 2000s? Their biggest hit, Boulevard, was a single in 2006. Their latest album just won best rock album. IDK how to take your stance here.

I'm just gonna put it out there, MJ and a lot of the other top picks would not be as successful in today's music industry. Their giant success was partly a product of the time they were in, and while they'd still be successful it would not be on the same level.

Awesome!

Does this studio lack any kind of cohesion/direction or is it just me?
I'm getting there. I think drafting as close to the BAP as possible for the first 6-7 rounds is ideal strategy then start drafting people to blend and tie those people together. It's not like there isn't a good amount of collaboration possible between those people anyway.

The music market has completely changed over the past 20 years, let alone 30-50 years. The success modern artists are having translates way better in this than what someone did in the 80s or even earlier.

ehn, it's a logical progression. BJA is 38 years old now, how long do people expect him to keep writing pop-punk songs about jerking off or whatever? at least they're trying something, and because of that Green Day will probably have a nice, long career...well they are already have really. but most bands who don't change over 20 years become totally irrelevant and fade away.

This is true. Music has gotten more splintered and niche oriented as it has become much cheaper to produce/distribute. There are less and less icons, but I still think MJ would be the biggest pop star in the world if we were put in todays world.

Michael: Your Uncle Gob seems to think that he saw you down at the docks today. Was that you?
George Michael: No. No. Maybe it was the other George Michael. You know, the singer-songwriter.
Michael: Yeah, that makes sense.

Spoiler:
Scott Weiland

I had two other guys in mind, but it would have been a coin flip between them. I'll go ahead and combine two guys with stellar careers in Slash and Weiland.

Once again, full writeup coming up when I find time.

I wouldnt put Green Day in the same category as hugely popular undrafteds who wrote 5 albums about jerking off where if their lyrics didnt mature they would have faded away. You really think a guy who at 34 writes "American Idiot" screams maturity? I dont.
