Let’s set aside Cleveland’s two needed ties for a moment. Multiplying the Elo probability that each game breaks the Browns’ way, we anticipate there is a 1 in 238,559,677,617,755 chance that they will get that sixth wild card slot. The probability of having two specific selected games tie is a 1 in 82,369 chance. Combining those two chances, we anticipate that the Cleveland Browns have a 1 in 19,649,922,085,696,900,000 — that is 19.6 quintillion — chance of making the playoffs.
More to the point, the Browns have a probability of 32 percent to go 0-16 this year. But hey, anything is possible.
Cle actually doesn't need any ties. The cbs article is actually pretty wrong all over the place. They don't need the Jets to go 5-11 for instance (Jets don't win the AFCE tiebreaker at 6 wins so that's irrelevant) or the Chiefs to win out or the Jags to go 5-1. Or the ravens to only win vs the Colts. Jeez, this article is sloppy as hell. (the patriots don't need to win out either, just win everything that's not the stealers).
They do need the Bills to beat the dolphins once and lose every other game though. Houston can't win 6, neither can Oak or LA (I think, didn't fully check this one). Denver can win 6 if one is against Washington.
538 is also wrong on the odds by a lot. They just assumed that one reddit article was the only way and extrapolated. My god the laziness these days.
It's worth pointing out that their odds have improved to 19.6 quintillion to one because that's a lot better odds than they had at the start of the season.

All though the best part is if football exists on every planet with life and everyone has the browns it is still going to take like 45 lifetimes for it to happen to 1 fan base.
Kizer's Int in OT was like something out of a Madden video game where you just mash a button to avoid taking a sack. Was he even targeting a receiver on that play or was it an attempt to just chuck it passed the coverage without taking the sack? That decision looked awful in real time.
I thought McCarthy's decision to punt on that fourth and short from mid field late in the game down by seven with only two timeouts remaining and your season on the line was questionable but I guess when you have the other team's QB making decisions like that one on average it doesn't seem as bad.
I don't care what the playoff seeding situation is or if Pittsburgh can improve their position or not. If the Browns are 0-15 going into the last week Pittsburgh better have all hands on deck.
