Garry Kasparov. I know what you're thinking -- Tal, Morphy, and co. were arguably more entertaining. But Kasparov has the strongest mix of entertaining play and offboard drama in the internet era. He's still relevant today due to politics and stuff. Fischer is up there too of course, but I gave the nod to Kasparov because reasons.

BTW, there was one other boxing match of 20th C that was nearly as dramatic a setup as Ali-Frazier I for drama, imo. Not many agree with me I don't think. I could give hints or make my case but probably make it too easy. Any takers?

I watch a hell of a lot of soccer but Messi doesn't seem to me to be the most entertaining.

The guy just does the simple stuff better than anyone in the game ever has.

He doesn't usually do the stuff that is mindboggling like zlatan or ronaldinho

He's way more Greg Maddux than he is Randy Johnson or Pedro
