Logano edges Elliott at the line for stage 2.

Strongest non-plate performance by Logano this year by far.

Looks like 18 misjudged it, but doesn't matter, it happened. He wrecked him.

Yikes, Furniture Row announces it is shutting down at the end of the season due to lack of funding -- one year after winning the Cup championship.

Wow goes to show how little attention I've been paying the past several years, as this post was from 2018. I had no idea Home Depot got out after 2014 and I watched the 500 and didn't even notice a lack of a Lowe's car. I really hope they can salvage the sport even though I'm not a big fan anymore (was never a HUGE fan fwiw). I guess the ratings for the 500 were better this year which is slightly encouraging.

That makes you a fanatic around these parts . But, yep Lowe's is out, Ally Bank is in, full primary for the year on the 48. The sport is leveling out to a sustainable level from the boom imo, considering all the factors of reduced interest (cars/driving in general, cord cutting, live sports tv watching and viewing in general). Jim France seems a god send, compared to Brian, thankfully.

In poker related news, Global Poker is debuting their sponsorship of Kurt Busch's #1 car this weekend. I have no idea the last time there was a poker sponsor on a Cup car, if ever.

I forgot I had got bored and NASCAR withdrawals before Daytona this year, typed up this recap of 2018, I'll go ahead and leave it here.

Let us recap last season and our 2018 MENCS Champion Joey Logano!

Things started off very slow for Mr. Logano, so slow he undoubtedly would not have Championshipped without said playoff system, but that’s okay! Remember the Kenseth incident? (of course you do). Well, this was Logano’s Revenge Tour and it began with a chromehorn victim named Truex:

An unhappy camper post race Truex would put this out there:

Ultimately, he would get all the lols when Logano goes screaming past him at Homestead claiming the Championship:

As for the bulk of the season, Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick dominated under the regular season point system format with 8 wins each 22/23 top 5s 28/29 top 10s. Kyle prevailing in a close battle. Those are insanely dominating numbers for a 36 race season with 4 plate tracks on the schedule.
Jimmie Johnson completed another abysmal season for his standards with no wins. That is 2 years in a row. HMS has struggled across the board on speed with all 4 cars. Chevy as a whole continues to struggle compared to Ford and Toyota with the new Camaro ZL1 nose.

Here’s a list of all the driver seat changes silly season etc:

Quote:
The worst kept secret in NASCAR was made official Monday as Stewart-Haas Racing announced Daniel Suarez as the new driver of its No. 41 Ford.
Suarez arrives at SHR after two years in the Cup Series with Joe Gibbs Racing. The news is the last major piece of the silly season puzzle.
Here’s a look at all the notable moves in the Cup and Xfinity Series.
UNANNOUNCED CUP RIDES FOR 2019
Rick Ware Racing: The team will field two cars in 2019, but has not announced any drivers yet.
No. 77: Spire Sports + Entertainment will field the car with a charter purchased from Furniture Row Racing. A driver has not been announced.
ANNOUNCED CUP RIDES FOR 2019
No. 00: Landon Cassill will drive full-time for StarCom Racing (announcement made Dec. 17).
No. 1: Kurt Busch joins Chip Ganassi Racing for 2019 and brings along sponsor Monster Energy (announcement made Dec. 4)
No. 6: Ryan Newman joins Roush Fenway Racing for next season (announcement made Sept. 22).
No. 8: Daniel Hemric replaces Ryan Newman at Richard Childress Racing for 2019 (announcement made Sept. 28).
No. 13: Ty Dillon said he will remain at Germain Racing for the 2019 season (announcement made Sept. 24)
No. 19: Martin Truex Jr. and crew chief Cole Pearn move to Joe Gibbs Racing from the defunct Furniture Row Racing team (announcement made Nov. 7)
No. 32: Corey LaJoie will drive for Go Fas Racing in his first full-time Cup season (announcement made Dec. 20)
No. 36: Matt Tifft joins Front Row Motorsports in a third car for the 2019 season (announcement made Nov. 27).
No. 41: Daniel Suarez moves to Stewart-Haas Racing to replace Kurt Busch (announcement made Jan. 7).
No. 43: Bubba Wallace will remain with Richard Petty Motorsports through the 2020 season (announcement made July 28).
No. 47: Ryan Preece replaces AJ Allmendinger at JTG Daugherty Racing (announcement made Sept. 28).
No. 95: Matt DiBenedetto moves to Leavine Family Racing for 2019. Leavine Family Racing also switches to Toyota (announcement made Oct. 10)
No. 97: Tanner Berryhill will compete full-time for Obaika Racing (announcement made Dec. 3)
CUP DRIVERS WITHOUT ANNOUNCED PLANS FOR 2019
AJ Allmendinger: Will join NBC Sports as sports car analyst and a contributor for NASCAR America (announcement made Dec. 19)
Trevor Bayne: 2011 Daytona 500 winner is looking for a ride after the Sept. 12 announcement that he won’t return to Roush Fenway Racing in 2019.
Jamie McMurray: Will be an analyst for Fox Sports, but still has an offer to compete in the Daytona 500 through Chip Ganassi Racing.
CREW CHIEF CHANGES
No. 3: Danny Stockman replaces Justin Alexander as Austin Dillon‘s crew chief in 2019 (move confirmed Nov. 26)
No. 11: Mike Wheeler will not return as Denny Hamlin‘s crew chief for 2019 (announcement made Nov. 16). Chris Gabehart will take over.
No. 24: Chad Knaus replaces Darian Grubb as William Byron‘s crew chief in 2019 (announcement made Oct. 10)
No. 48: Kevin Meendering replaces Chad Knaus as Jimmie Johnson‘s crew chief in 2019 (announcement made Oct. 10)
No. 95: Mike Wheeler joins the team and replaces Jon Leonard, who moved back to Richard Childress Racing to be an engineer on Austin Dillon’s team.
DC Solar (a major sponsor for Chip Ganassi racing) was raided by the FBI over the holidays for who knows what. That’s 2 major sponsor losses for Chip after Target’s departure early last year. That has to hurt. Could affect equipment with Larson and Kurt. McMurray has finally been ousted out of the #1 car, a long time coming imo.

Bubba has a disappointing season after a 2nd place finish at Daytona to start the season and full thread support. He’ll look to rebound, I honestly thought he would have a stronger car than he ended up having, but the King Petty does not seem too interested in fielding a competitive cup car. Just goes to show that plate tracks are indeed the great equalizer. He also takes the title for hardest wreck of the year:

“The Package”: One of the biggest changes to this season is yet another horsepower reduction (supposedly into the neighborhood of 550 hp) on mile and a half tracks. They experimented with a similar 400 hp package at the all-star race that drew praise from the fans that attended. It essentially turned Charlotte into a hybrid plate track with increased drafting importance. There was a large contingent of cars all grouped up just behind the leader. Definitely different than anything we’ve ever seen before. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of wide open momentum racing, but I am willing to take the wait and see approach.

NASCAR continues to make significant changes, with the statement "Everything is on the table".
