I have been a racing fan in general my whole life. The reason I posted the link is because I wanted to show that I am not some NASCAR hater. I have one of only two complete sets of 1972 STP cards. It took me probably 10 years to put together that set because of how difficult some of the cards are to find.

It is only an 11-card set, but the Fred Lorenzen with car card and the Bobby Allison card are all but impossible to find. The cards were available for free courtesy of STP at the 1972 Daytona 500, and the rare cards in particular have sharply risen in value over the years (although nothing like major cards from the stick and ball sports).

That's really cool. Can you post pics of some of the stuff you have?

Let me mess around this coming weekend, when I have some more time. I lost all my images that I had on photobucket when they went to a pay site. I will have to rescan them somewhere else. I am old and technologically adequate at best.

Here is a link to the vintage racing card thread that I post on frequently. I lost all my images that I posted in the thread for the previously mentioned reason, but my avatar on the site has remained and is still my 1972 Lorenzen with car card.

There is a ton of information in that thread about vintage racing cards, for those inclined to learn about the topic.

I use the same user name in that thread that I use on here.

"Time to go Harvicking!". He just hadn't had the wins to show for it, finally cashed in and gave the Intimidator another 3 salute. They flashed a graphic on screen for all-time wins at Atlanta, Earnhardt Sr. has 9! Good luck with that one. That's 2 races in a row somehow linked to Earnhardt Sr. since Junior's departure...interesting.

There was also a Days of Thunder smoke screen thrown up by Bayne in this race, kinda crazy. Nobody could see a thing. Bad luck for Bubba and Stenhouse. The onboard from Larson showed how difficult it was to drive through, but couldn't find it.

Also, short replay of race.

Thanks for the links! My previous post should've said I DIDN'T get to watch the race. Those recap videos with all the radio chatter are fun to watch. Harvick was definitely the class of the field at Atlanta. Again. Nice to see him finish it off this time. Nice throwback tribute at the end too.

Vegas this weekend, then right down the street from me at PIR, or whatever they just renamed it, the following weekend. Unfortunately I'll be in Vegas the weekend they're here so I won't be able to go. Maybe the fall race if the Cardinals don't have a home game that day.

I am about a week late on this but Denny Hamlin actually kicked Bubba Wallace out of his golf and basketball rec leagues over the Daytona spat. Apparently it helps support charity and Bubba was part of it last year.

If that isn't the most chicken **** move I don't know what is. But wait there's more! Denny couldn't tell Bubba to his face, call him or even text him to break the news. He communicated it through 5 or 6 different people and it eventually got to Bubba.

That's some pussy half ass bullying. Nascar needs someone to hate and we all need to make it Denny Hamlin.

Vegas baby Vegas!

Also, yes haven't liked Hamlin much since his dive bombings last year. He can suck it.

The #4 team hit with pretty stiff penalties after rear window issues Sunday at Las Vegas.

https://sports.yahoo.com/nascar-pena...232001761.html

Quote:
NASCAR fined crew chief Rodney Childers $50,000 and suspended car chief Robert Smith two Cup races for a violation with a brace on Kevin Harvick’s winning car from last weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
NASCAR announced Wednesday that it was penalizing Harvick 20 driver points and the team 20 owner points for the L1 infraction. Harvick also is docked the seven playoff points he earned at Las Vegas – five for his win and two for each stage he won.
Harvick drops from the points lead with the violation. He now has six playoff points instead of 13.
The penalty won't factor into him making the playoffs obviously, but the 7 playoff points he lost could play a part in him advancing to the next round at some point......if I fully understand how the playoff points work.

I wish they wouldn't penalize after the fact, kinda hate it. They go through tech/impound they've got days to find something, if they can't then they can't just let it go. Only taking apart the winners car post-race to find something...not a fan.

Looks like Harvick is really fast again, hope he stomps the field again just to prove a point. Losing 7 playoff points could hurt down the line, but if he keeps racking up a large advantage during the regular season it should be easy for him to make Homestead. (Yep u got it right, the points roll over.)

Luckily he's already got a win, so the consequences don't seem as bad as Logano's last year.

So some rather large NASCAR news, Lowe's will not be returning to sponsor JJ next year. This follows the exit of long-time sponsor Target on the 42 car of Larson last year, and Home Depot many many years ago. This is certainly surprising, I would have guessed Lowe's would have wanted to stay with him until the end, they are such a brand name associated with that 48 car it will be weird seeing anything else on it. They had just debuted a revamped all black paint scheme for the new Chevy Camaro ZL1 too, so it's pretty weird timing imo. Pure speculation, but Johnson has been no where near as dominant in recent years as he used to be, if that played a factor at all.

Last week recap, HARVICK wins again! 3 in a row! But, this was a much more competitive race than Vegas, there was a 4 way battle for the lead at one point deep into the race, for I wanna say 20-30 laps, between Harvick, Hamlin, Busch, and Elliott. And, some late race strategy with people staying out trying to catch a caution. Good quality race imo.

Short radio chat replay of it:

Follow-up on Harvick's Vegas penalty and what exactly happened there:

Should be interesting to see how attendance/ratings fare now that Tiger! is taking over on Sundays!

Looks like Lowe's is leaving the sport altogether, not just the 48 team, after this year. That definitely isn't an encouraging sign for NASCAR. I'm curious if that team will struggle to find full sponsorship next year or if they'll have companies lining up to be on the car. I assume it'll go the same way it is for most other teams right now.....several sponsors on small deals as opposed to one primary sponsor that's on the car for most every race. The hood of a 7 time champion seems like a good place to throw your money if you're a business looking to spend some sponsorship dollars.

On to California this week. If the first 4 races are any indication we can probably expect to see the #4 car towards the front again this weekend. Can he make it 4 in a row? Unless he gets taken out or catches some bad luck, I'm guessing yes.

Has anyone won 4 in a row since Handsome Harry (in the late '90's I think)?

Edit: I have a bad memory. It was early '90's for Gant and 4 drivers since then: Elliot, Martin, Gordon, Johnson. I was always a huge Mark Martin fan and somehow don't remember him winning 4 in a row.
