Meh. I'm going to disagree and suggest this is a reach, and really really not worth trading up for. In 20 picks, Chauncey or similar value will be available. I hear Epip when he says he really wanted him, but even he notes that Billups likely is there in 10 picks. Trading down 60 slots later to move up 10 effective slots for marginal improvement to me is a blunder.

I think we see Worthy for what he is, and it's you who overrate him. Worthy would be a good player to pair with someone like Magic Johnson. (Hmm, so, a good late 2nd round pick) but to take him at the tailend of the 1st round is definition of a pick made too early.

How can you say "he is by far the best player in this format" left?

Picking him here isn't that terrible, trading up 20 spots to do it is though.

I like the way his team is looking, but agree that if Billups wasn't around he could have gotten similar value without trading up.

His injury was def. freak. Brand is a brilliant cornerstone to build around. THIS is what's known as a "good" pick.

He might not be, but saying it's not even close is way too much of an exaggeration. Who is that much better than him who is left? Remember, Billups doesn't have injury issues either.

Edit: Do agree that trading up for him was probably a mistake as he could have or someone who brings the same stuff to the table could have still been there at the original pick.

Double Edit: Just in case anyone cares, I know I said I liked Chauncey "here" earlier, but I was referring to teaming him with McHale.

To be completely honest, I am totally shocked. Billups wasn't even on my radar, let alone this early. I need to digest this one before I comment.

Meh. Worthy is to me clearly > Chauncey and the picks are like 4 slots apart and people are ok with Billups (AND giving up value to get him) but hate Worthy? Something not right there.

McHale and Billups as a one-two punch is pretty underwhelming, on the other hand the Pistons have had continued success for six years. I think you're going to have to costruct a team similar to the Pistons; no stars, just players with really good chemistry who play in a system that emphasizes their strengths and hides their weaknesses. A good coach will definitely be necessary.

There is no way Worthy is better in this format than Chancey.

You underrate how good of a scorer McHale is. There is only one PF who can even come close to stopping him in this draft and that is Duncan and even then I think McHale could have his way most of the time.

Billups is an excellent defender and can score efficiently creating for himself.

Actually, I think you probably could have picked Billups at 60. You don't get a 3rd round pick, hmm, I dunno, thats not so hot.

I think 1st round is very clear, though. Best pick is Scottie Pippen (and Grant Hill). Worst pick is Isiah Thomas (and James Worthy).

Entirely too much hate on both of those picks (Zeke and Worthy).

The biggest stretch really is Chris Paul at freaking 11 the more I think about it.

I've sent a PM to a few people, so let me remind everyone of the rules:

No mentioning players or giving any hints about them anymore. This includes comments such as "Theres a really good SF that I expect to go soon" or "I think you'll find another 20/10 guy who played better defense."

Yes I let some people get away with it early when the draft picks are obvious, but now that theres a much wider range of possibilities we need to completely and 100% stop it.

I realize that nearly everyone has broken this rule from time to time so I've been hesitant to penalize people for breaking it, but I"m close to doing it.

I like McHale/Billups a lot, but I think they'll be underrated by most of the people following this thread because they lack "wow" factor.

probably could have but didn't want to risk it, as the things he brings at that position are the rarest qualities in the entire draft.

a mid 3rd round pick in this draft won't be as good as you guys think it is.
