sorry Assani, 2.21 was the lowest i could go. I'm happy with 4 picks in the top 101, and since I didn't have anyone I was specifically targeting, moving down is fine with me.

why did KLJ only make one pick? does he not realize he has 2? if so, if he's intentionally delaying, i vote we boot him from the draft.

edit: it's all angry bobbo tonight.

Why did BobboFitos post this before reading the other posts in this thread?

edit: fanmail beat me to it.

if you're looking for champions, i suggest drafting robert horry and steve kerr

Round #2 Pic #42 Chauncey Billups 6'3 PG

I know this is techincally a reach in terms of BPA as in a vaccum I think there are a good 5-10 better players than Billups, however no one left in the draft can do what he can, and that is defend/shoot at a ridiculously elite level at the PG spot. He is one of the best shooters ever, shooting ft's at .886 for his career (been a lot higher these last few years), Shoots .385 career from 3's (also been a lot higher during his peak). His true shooting percentage has been in the .600's multiple times during his career as well. He is always among the elite PG defenders, and imo is one of the top 5 best PG defenders in this draft (mostly due to a lack of elite PG defenders). He is also a very good dribbler/post up guard/passer. He does it all, and ontop of that he is clutch, his name isn't big shot for a reason. He was imo the most underrated player in the last 5 years (although he recently has started getting well deserved props). He is still 31 years old and yet to decline.

Also at the end of the game, when I am leading, I am always confident getting in his hands with his ridiculous ft shooting.

People say it took a while for him to break out, which is true, but a lot of those years were before he turned 24. At the age 24 I already get him just 2 years before he offically blew up in Detriot. Also both those years in Minnesota, he actually did a very good job in limited minutes (his 3pt/ft) were very good, and he played pretty good d which also continued to improve. He also is very durable, never missing less than 70 games in a season and a lot of the times in the high 70's/low 80's.

Team so far

PF/C Kevin McHale
PG Chauncey Billups

i posted my first pick before i had decided my 2nd pick, because somebody wanted to do a recap or something of the first round.

otherwise i would have just waited to post both.

be fair though, it took me 4 hours (from the start of the clock) to make (or trade) 2 picks.

Billups is not even close to the best player left at his position.

I like Chauncey here. Especially if you have post players who draw double teams, he can get nasty from outside. I thought either him or a certain SG would have worked well with McHale, I actually have the BRef player pages open for both of them right now since I figured they would go soon.

I don't mind it. Your team already has shape which is good to establish this early IMO

Billups wasn't one of the two I wanted to trade up for, but he was probably 3rd or 4th on my list. I don't think its too early at all for him. Love the defense he brings.

As you mentioned though, he peaked significantly after turning 24, although maybe he was just underused....actually no, having played for that many teams and being a high draft pick I think we can say pretty surely that he just developed late and wasn't underused(high draft picks get every chance to get playing time, and its unlikely that multiple teams didn't see his talent and underused him).

Other than that, I love the pick though.

Agreed in a vaccum, but he is by far the best player in this format, especially with a dominate post player like McHale who I will be running my offense through most of the time.

Like I said, I know I reached about 10 spots, but with people not willing to trade, I couldn't risk missing out on him. Also I don't think I paid that high a price at all to move up that it was def worth it.
