I'm not involved in this, but I've been reading the thread because it's good stuff.

Didn't Reggie Lewis have a genetic defect? Seems like he was a ticking time bomb, not a freak accident.

On the other hand, Petrovic died in a car accident, right?

Sorry if I shouldn't be naming names, but other people brought them up. Delete this if it's inappropriate.

Since I drafted TMac, I'll chime in with my interpretation of the injury rule. When reading Assani's rules, it says something to the effect that players won't necessarily have the exact same injuries that occurred in real life, but that if they are chronically injured, they will have an elevated risk of injury. So, while a normal player might have a 5-10% chance of developing a chronic injury assuming minimal injuries during their pre-24 seasons, a guy like TMac or Hill has a higher chance, maybe 50% if I have to pull a number out of thin air. Obviously since we're getting guys at 24, if their injuries started before then, there is nothing that can be done. But, I don't think we should just assume that Hill is injured 100% of the time while Lebron has a zero percent chance of injury.

nailed it.

Hate the Hill pick, think Marion is OK but a few guys I'd take ahead of him.

yes they are exact clones of how the real life player was at that same age, so they went through everything that their real life counterparts did.

I can live with that. a guy like the admiral, who had 1 season missed, but other then that really healthy, should rarely if ever have a career ending injury, and will play nearly every game. ok, that works for me. ive been ranking injured players FAR lower then i should be.
I may have been ranking injured players too low as well.

I guess I should take Oden then, nah I would be getting him at 33.

Agreed.

The Jordan/Robinson/Brand injuries are great examples of things that could happen to Lebron/Malone/Duncan. But guys like TMac are obviously going to be spotty, with some full years and a slew of partial years.

I guess given the way that condition is handled now, yeah that is probably a good assumption.

Yeah, I've got like 2-3 guys ahead of Marion, maybe a few more. I've thought about it a lot and think there's a clear best player available.

im just sitting here whoring myself out to this thread hoping that the 2 players that i really want, and/or the 2 players that i would be very happy with wont get taken in the next 7 picks. huge disappointment waiting to happen.

there's 3 others i would be happy with, so as long as all 7 dont get taken i wont life tilt

edit: and i had 5 players ahead of marion

arenas should be considered a freak injury imo. obv its chronic now, but if he never tweaks his knee in that unfortunate manner he never has the problems.

Respecting Assani's wishes now. Injury thing is clarified. No more names/hints/etc. It's really tough now to pick guys so let's keep it clean. There's plenty to discuss.

Sorry Don'tRaisePlz, you just happened to be the first. Nothing personal.

No, I regret nothing. AI pwns. 27.7. Take care. Can't wait to surround AI with some real talent.

i had a couple people ahead of marion but don't hate the pick especially given how versatile he is.

hill was an awesome player before the injury, but i expected him to be picked like 30 spots lower because of the injury risks.

suppose that hill's initial ankle injury was a freak thing and that the following ankle problems was result of that freak injury are we to assume that in the alternate world if he never tweaks his ankle in that freakish manner that he will remain healthy throughout his career? how do we assign the likelihood of him getting an injury in the alternate world?

imo, even if a guy's injury is truly "freaky" i think he should still be considered a health risk as its entirely possible that staying healthy is a legitimate skill and physical asset like height and speed.

Maybe AI is better as a second option? Carmelo had a higher usage rate than AI this year.

(Also, usage goes up for every turnover and down for every assist, so a guy like AI will have artificially inflated usage rates. In his case it's more of a bad thing.)

I think it's much better to assume that the player would have exactly the same career injury wise (maybe with a couple of obvious exceptions like death in a car accident)
That way everybody knows exactly what they're getting.

Reggie Miller? One of the better players on the board, but I wouldn't pick him.

Not a big fan of the Grant Hill or Reggie Miller picks. IMO Miller went a solid round and a half too early and there were at least a four to five SG's I would have taken over him.

Also what a ****ing value pick on reggie - ****ing finally - his WSAA is ridiculous, solid PER, good defense, ~ 40% career from three, all-time leader in TS% , and ideal in this format as his outside shooting will keep opposing defenses spaced, allowing for solid offense. Also plays multiple positions which is good for draft flexibilty

Edit: plus the name of the game in this draft is efficiency which is what miller brings to the table more than anyone in the modern era... so many high-octane players demanding the ball...

Miller's one of the most efficient players ever to play the game AND he played forever. He's a legitimate pick, and I don't see how there are four to give shooting guards better.
