he also happens to be better then Isiah Thomas. GP is another guy who likely should've gone a few picks ago.
The second I read that we get our player at 24 I thought to myself that Isiah is going to be sick in this draft. Comparing a 24-year-old Payton to Isiah is murderously in Isiah's favor.

Yeah, GP is sooooo much better than Isiah in this format. The GP that averaged 13ppg and like 5 assists when he was 24.

Is it safe to assume that a player who ran the triangle (i.e. Pippen) is capable of playing in most any offense?
no, but it's safe to assume that Pippen is capable of playing in most any offense

Yeah, I meant the better players in the triangle, not Rick Fox.

on the other hand, GP averaged 22/5/9 with 1.5 steals when he was 33, Thomas averaged 0/0/0

wait i thought it was just player at their peak? why at 24?

I loved the Pippen pick. "Point forward" is so sexy to build around.

A run for the last big men (some big time injury risks) is going to leave a lot of of the great wing players/alpha scorers undervalued IMO. I would be tempted to pick one of them right now, despite his low FG%.

And "The Small Forward" is Pippen, not Dominique. Taking Nique over Pippen is bizarre.
I was more impressed with what Dominique did being the #1 his whole career than what Pippen did playing Robin to MJ.

Unless they pick Meat Loaf, then sleeping on it is more than OK.
05-12-2008 , 11:14 PM
we assume we're starting with them at 24.. but we're not just worried about one year.

15th post of the thread assani says:

"*Primes = 24 years old for those who were in the NBA at 24, current age for those currently younger, or age of entry to NBA for those who didn't enter league until after 25th birthday."

This post is the entire reason I took Isiah.

Yeah, if we actually wind up doing a lot of seasons in this league then Payton will totally own me later on. Personally I don't care about season 5 of the league much less season 10.

HATE THE PICK
05-12-2008 , 11:20 PM
Round #1/Pick #28

Tracy McGrady

Like mmbt0ne, I too was hoping for at least one of the last few picks to continue to get overlooked, but it was not to be. So, I'll take TMac. Since we'll be getting him at age 24, let's take a look at his career up to that point.

Code:
Season Age	G	MP	FG%	3P	3PA	3P%	TS%	eFG%	FT	FTA	FT%	ORB	DRB	TRB	AST	STL	BLK	TOV	PF	PTS	PER
1997-98 18	64	1179	0.450	0.200	0.600	0.341	0.505	0.467	1.200	1.700	0.712	1.600	2.600	4.200	1.500	0.800	1.000	1.000	1.300	7.000	17.400

2001-02 22	76	2912	0.451	1.400	3.700	0.364	0.532	0.483	5.500	7.300	0.748	2.000	5.900	7.900	5.300	1.600	1.000	2.500	1.800	25.600	25.100

Leads the league in scoring at age 23. A PER of over 30, which is the 11th highest total of all time, only behind names such as Chamberlain, Jordan, Robinson, and O'Neal. Pretty heady territory.

I don't care if he's never reached the second round, he's too good to pass up on, and besides, I'm not a believer in all that clutch nonsense anyways. This is an alternate world, maybe he'll ride the positive wave of variance given a second chance and new teammates. I like this pick, I think it's great, and with that, we're off to the doctor's to make sure his back never bothers him again.

don't tell your pretend "fans" this. i would want to kill you if you were the owner of my franchise, lol.
05-12-2008 , 11:21 PM
This is a better pick than it first appears to be...
05-12-2008 , 11:24 PM
Dudd- You mention is PER at 23 and his stats before 24 but what does that all matter? You are getting him at 24.
05-12-2008 , 11:25 PM
I think one or two guys currently playing the same position are better picks than T-Mac. F his peak he can't stay on the court.

GP at age 24: 17 PER, 10.3 DWS, 105 drtg.
Isiah at age 24: 21.2 PER, 8.5 DWS, 108 drtg.

ok, so isiah was better at 24. But this is Isiah's peak and GP just goes on to become a king. Your window is limited, sir.
05-12-2008 , 11:26 PM
I'm assuming that we'll be replaying the 24 year old season, so it effectively doesn't exist in this world, so our jumping off point so to speak will be his 23 year old season.

Baron played all 82 games this year, but went through a long stretch where injuries truly hurt his effectiveness.

In the first two cases I don't see how injuries DONT count against you. I still expect TMac to be a 2nd (or early 3rd) round pick, but you're never getting 82 games, and it's possible he misses the playoffs.

Big Z I think had foot problems? But yeah looks like he's put it in his past. No idea what sort of ruling people would make

Why name Nique? He is going within the next few picks, nobody is taking Baron or TMac right now--if they do, then good!--there is a reason a certain crop is being mentioned.
Those comments were made after pick #21 fwiw.
05-12-2008 , 11:35 PM
i cant name 50, let alone 80 players i would rather take than Tmac, and my current power rankings are about 120 deep
05-12-2008 , 11:36 PM
One note about my prediction of 2nd or early 3rd was i assumed 30 people in the draft, not 105. on my personal board i had tmac going like 50ish. so... but oh well, when tmac is on fire, he's the man.
05-12-2008 , 11:37 PM
I can name 28 though
