We decided that people like Larry Hughes were just too valuable to waste a round on coaches.

Last edited by Dudd; 08-25-2008 at 08:36 PM. Reason: I mean, Larry Hughes! How am I the only one shocked that he got picked?

yessir! i posted that link in my writeup. i do, however, fail to see how he's that bad. it could be a flaw in my logic, but i'll save it for another day unless someone says something concrete.

True story: I thought about taking Hughes like in the 7th round and then I got sort of scared off but I was definitely taking him in round 10 if he was there.

Looking forward to the end of the draft at this point. I think everyone doing a write up where they explain what their team would do, explain any things they would do over in retrospect, and explain situations where someone may have picked a player a spot or two in front of them and changed their plans. I think those could all be interesting reads if everyone is on board.

I also think it'd be a great idea to go back through the draft and people suggest a team they would've prefered if they could re-do things. So going back through your picks and if theres guys below where you picked you'd prefer switching things up.

I think I would've gone about things completely different. Webber is certainly deserving of where I took him IMO, but I think it would of been better to build around some guys just below him (paul pierce for one).

I think once all the elite centers were taken the degree of difficulty certainly went up.

Also I would so do this again with adapted rules. If less people were up for it that'd be fine but its certainly been a blast so far (despite not being able to put in as much effort recently due to finals).

GKA is skipped; after you, it's xorbie again, then AC-Cobra, sergsz... you know what, it's the exact reverse of what just happened.

10th Round pick is Matt Bonner. Decided from the beginning I was gonna have a little fun with my last pick, but ended up with a solid bench player anyways who is flexible across the frontcourt.

The pride of New Hampshire, the Red Rocket!

Remember that game this season where he blew up for 25/17? That was awesome.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

Just noticed the Mike Conley pick. I was planning to take him with my 10th round pick. He seems like a good prospect for anyone who can afford to speculate and send a project to europe or the D-league for a couple years. Loads of talent, although he has similar limitations to Sebastian Telfair (Short, no jumper) who obviously didn't amount to anything, so we'll see if he can cut it in the coming years. I like the pick regardless.

If anyone thinks it's inappropriate for me to say Telfair's name feel free to PM me asking me to edit have a mod edit it out. I assume it's okay since he wouldn't be picked even in a 20-round draft.

Yeah... I could have put together Rivers / Majerle / Mullin / Oakley / Ewing this way. I think that could've been nasty. If I get Ewing instead of Dirk in 1, that changes my needs big-time (I still grab Mullin in 2 as the BPA but I think putting those guys around him, as they were available, is the proper way to build that team).

I'd like to do this again sometime, now that I have some idea of what I'm doing.

edit: Man, Oakley's numbers on b-ref look a lot worse than I would've thought. Maybe I would go a different direction there, maybe Jamison. Oakley's a hell of a rebounder though.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

I'm not convinced Mullin is the BPA there... he might be. It's close. I'd at least be considering Porter and Eddie Jones there. Mullin's an offensive monster, pretty weak defensively and on the glass, and wasn't really the healthiest guy ever.

I dunno. Can't go wrong with him.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

Eh, he picked up a few boards a game, not all that weak considering he'd be out on the wing in this lineup. I dunno-- his offensive production seemed so head-and-shoulders above what anyone else would offer that i feel like i'd have to take him

But who knows? Maybe I trade down in 1 so I can land Pippen later and then just build a nasty team with all my trade riches

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

I was wondering where Eddy Curry was going to go, his box score number just jump off the chart. Very efficient, very high usage. Then you look at his rebounding, which would be pretty good for a SF, pretty terrible for a C, and then his +/-, where he has consistently ranked as one of the worst players on every team he's been on, and you wonder how terrible he must be at every other facet of the game besides scoring to pull that off.

For my skipped 9th round pick: Run JMC selects Eddy Curry

Getting Curry at 24 is a huge plus as he averaged career bests of 19.5 PPG and 7 RPG. While he isn't a great defender or rebounder he does provide size and lots of it. On offense, he is a great low post threat. He and Crawford also work really well together as they have been with each other for a few years now. Last season was pretty awful for Curry but the addition of Randolph really hindered him in addition to the futility of Isiah Thomas. His heart condition doesn't appear to be an issue any more and I look for him to be an asset on my team AND TEH NEW YORK KNICKERBOCKERS.

Team so far:
PG: Jason Kidd
SG: Mitch Richmond
SF: Corey Maggette
PF: Al Horford
C: Ralph Sampson

SG/SF: Bonzi Wells
PF/C:
PG/SG: Jamal Crawford
C: Eddy Curry
