Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

round 9 ends with:

tdarko
tbach
van_exel_fan
sergsz
AC-Cobra
xorbie
MEbenhoe
GKA
Epipen

Round 10 starts with KLJ instead of Epipen, and then it's the exact same in reverse from 362-378

not that I'm really complaining about getting BJ in the 9th round, thus solidifying the squad as a top 5 team or so, but I'm a little disappointed as I had a wicked backup PG facemelter lined up for the 10th round.

I agree you do have a top 5 squad, but your bench is really gonna struggle to score points. Its gonna end up with starks taking bad shots either early or late in the shot clock.

Ricky Pierce is most likely my 6th man who's a scoring machine. BJ is very efficient. Donyell is effective. My biggest weakness off the bench is low post offense. I also don't think it's that critical. Some teams have it. Some don't. I feel good about my interior defense off the bench, and I generally think the bench's role is holding leads, not expanding them.

<<<<<<< Disappointed you didn't pick an uglier team, or an all white squad.

If you bench pierce who are you starting ?

Low post offense use to be a key element in championship teams of the past. The way the NBA is being officiated now, its pretty much negated the need for low post offense.

My top 5 favorite teams-

1.Vanexel fan - Too much basketball IQ on this team for it not to be contenders. Defensively one of the best, offensively will be up there with the best.

2. biingchips - Absolutely no weaknesses on offense, olajuwon will dominate any big man that guards him. He has made david robinson and shaq both look like fools. Having glen rice raining 3;s will keep the defense honest and prevent doulbe teams.

3. seadood228-another great combination with KG lambeer an hornysek, I have a feeling this team wont be great offensively. Everyone is great at finishing plays, but no real creators besides KG.

4. jack of arcardes- Possibly the best frontcourt of defenst, with robinson AC green and mckey. Also heavy scoring power with aguirre and robinson.

5. Kidcolin- larry bird vlade and sam cassell I feel fit so well together. Vlades passing ability is perfect for bird. We saw how effective stoyakavic was running off the ball when vlade had it in the high post.

Notabales -

Steriod boy. Only because Michael jordan is on this team. Only help hes getting here is jason terry. Defensively they are gonna be good enough to hang around. Short of jordan going for 50 per game in a season this offense doesnt have enough.

Clark - Another one of the greatest front lines defensively with ewing nance and caron. I see this team as averaging so little from fast break points.

can we get some more people showing who their top 5 favorite teams are .

starks. I haven't really decided, but Ricky is a career 6th man and excelled at just coming in and lighting it up. Starks is a proven capable starter who's a much better defender.

I agree with 3-5 of your list. Not so much on 1 and 2. Lamar/Strickland too knuckleheady. VEF agree it's a good team but not enough talent for a top 5 spot. my top 5 excluding my own. Not necessarily in order.

1. JoA - Has it all. Franchise center who's a beacon of health and put absolutely absurd #s. Extremely efficient PG who can launch 3s. A top slasher/scorer in Aguirre. One of the better role players who doesn't need the ball to impact the game in A.C. Green. McKey solid and versatile. Rounds out the team with a solid if unspectacular bench.

2. ClarkNizzle - PERDUEEEEEE. OK really it all centers around the sick front line of Ewing, Nance, and Caron. Best in the league by far. Not at all thrilled with the PG position, though Mo as an off the bench spark plug is nice. Haslem was a great pick, too. Just an all around nice squad.

3. horizon - Might very well be the best squad. LeBron the first player with a legit shot at Jordan's thrown to come along. Just scary good. Rest of the squad all fills a role. Didn't like the Fat Lever pick since he's so ball dominant, but Barros is the perfect fit. And frankly it's good to at least have the option of using LeBron off the ball for a change.

4. capone - just something about this squad I really like. Dwight still very raw yet one of the best players in the league. He's surrounded with smart, solid players. Hardaway, Iggy, Steve Smith, Uncle Cliff.. tough to go wrong. Did a nice job rounding out the bench as well even if one of them is a sex offender.

5. seadood - pretty much what nopair said. Maybe the best front line instead of Clark. Sorta jumped the gun. It's close. KG>Ewing, Nance>=Laimbs (close), Caron > Mike Miller. Either way it's a monster.

Others I really like: Bobbo, Franchise, Epip, cowboy (SHEEED).. hell I like a ton of teams. Only a few that I'm down on.

Is there anyone less consistent than him? He fluctuated between a sub .500 TS% and over .600, it's like he was a completely different player depending on the year.

Not really. If you are talking about to his 94-95 sub .500 season--I believe that was the year he battled hamstring? injury. Someone from Philly w/ a better memory can correct that. I just remember him being hurt. He was .500+ until he was 31 discounting that one year, w/ really poor year in his last year in Philly.

He was an outstanding rebounder and defender pretty much his entire career. Off the bench that is more than what most people are drafting right now. The fact that he was also a very capable scorer for many years w/ a pretty good peak is just bonus.

Calvin Natt and Clarence Weatherspoon are also the two most 70s era black names in this draft.

This argument is much too weak to knock Biiiigchips out of the top 5, IMO. He might have the best team in the draft.

Ya, there is no way biing doesnt have the best team. We saw how effective odom is as a 3rd or 4th option. Hes highly efficient and doesnt do anything stupid when hes not asked to be the go-to guy.

The dream is the best big man in this draft. He dominated all the other great big men in this draft. So when its time for heads up games, he will out play robinson shaq, ewing.

The lebron team isnt going anywhere. ITs like the jordan team, only help lebron is gonna get is from petrovic. Horace grant and okafor are good, but they cannot score on their own.

I would have put franchise60 up there as well, if he had anyother center ( near the same quality ) besides big Z. He is just a terrible fit with this team. Hes team is just full of winners / great IQ / toughness.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

wow weatherspooin was a great pick here. I thought about getting him last round, but when time came to make my pick I didnt have him

Good rebounding shot blocking and steals for a 9th pick.

Although this late, the per 36 stats are also really important since we know CLearance isnt gonna be averaging 30 minutes per game in our league.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion - Let's Get'er Done

lol wtf not only does bigchips not even have the best team, he isn't even in the top 5.

First off his team is bad defensively according to this league, infact i'd say it's freaking terrible if he didn't have Hakeem. I mean seriously, after Hakeem his 2nd best defender is prob Lamar Odom and that is really awful in this league. Hakeem is a great defender obv, arguably the best bigman defender of all time, but he still can't do it by himself especially in a league which will have a lot more offensive firepower than in the NBA.

And on offense they aren't that good either, although better than they are on defense for sure. They have terrible outside shooting outside of Rice/Hodges, and they both can't play 40+ mpg (well maybe Rice can). But basacally they will only have 1-2 great shooters on the court (prob 1 most of the time as Hodges won't see many minutes). So it will make it a lot easier to double Hakeem/whoever else has the ball.

And wtf is with saying Lamar Odom is great when hes the 3rd-4th option? Hes clearly been best when he is the 2nd option in his career as he needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Heck ask Lakers fan how Lamar Odom was this year as the 3rd option, they all hated him/wanted him out of town badly.

And fwiw McHale played pretty well vs Hakeem when they played

Hakeem/Rice combo < Shaq/Eddie Jones. Hakeem is nasty, he's not really any better than D-Rob though I tend to favor him for silly reasons. Shaq is undoubtedly the best big man in the draft.

I like Chips team a lot, but it's not top 5 imo.
