Meh, Bailey's not a great shooter (sub .500 TS% his first two eligible years, yikes!), horrific rebounder for a big man. Don't know anything about his defense, but since you made your 200 points comment, I take it you think that offense is his strong suit, and nothing in his defensive rebounding or blocks stands out as great. I'm not sold on him.

Haslem, his slide these past few years worries me. I'm not sure how much you can take from last year since he was playing for a D-League team, but there has been a clear decline in his offensive numbers from 2004-05 season. Solid rebounder and defender though.

Ya his rebounding is horrible for a center. Rebounding will be a weakness for my team. By far my biggest weakness. I will hope to counter that with all the turnovers I will be forcing. I have the fastest team in the league, I think.

His shooting is good, 82% from the free throw line, my team will be forcing a lot of fouls this is important.

His defense is solid in that he will be forcing 2 turnovers per game, 1.5 blocks and .5 steals. Also a lot of high d win share seasons.

Durability was my most important factor in taking him, playing almost all 82 games in his first 8 years while playing more than 35 minutes a game.

How exactly will your team be "forcing a lot of fouls"? He had a sub .500 TS% his 24 and 25 year old season despite shooting over 80% from the line. He did rebound after that to around .540, but even that's just average for a big man. But forcing a lot of fouls, he didn't do that in real life enough to make him anything more than an average to below average scorer, why should he do it for your team?

I was saying my team as a whole will be drawing a lot of fouls, hence being in the penalty a lot. I have a lot of slashers and people who get to the line a lot.

Udonis Halsem

With Nance and Ewing flexible to spell each other at Center if need be, and plenty of offensive firepower coming off my bench, Haslem is a nice guy to bring off my bench as my 8th overall selection. A very good defender, he will keep my interior D solid and is capable of eating minutes.

Not a big shotblocker, which hurts him in PER, he's nontheless a reasonably efficient scorer on a team that really isn't very efficient, especially the last two years. Has a TS% of 55% from 24yo season onward, which is plenty fine for a bench guy who figures to get no more than 25mpg. Good efficiency from the line and exactly the kind of garbage man my second unit can use given that everyone else can score just fine.

I think there were probably slightly better players available, but he's a very good fit for my needs at the moment and continues my teams trend of healthy individuals (75+ games in 4 of 5 seasons) who either have, or project to have, reasonable longevity. Another high energy guy who will fit in great with my team. Willing do discount last year which was a bit of a decline given that the entire team was a joke and in the tank from Day 1.

PG: Mookie Blaylock, Mo Williams
SG: Allan Houston, Del Curry
SF: Caron Butler
PF: Larry Nance, Udonis Halsem
C: Patrick Ewing

Ok, now that I have some time, let me try to defend Sam Bowie.

He's a serious health risk. In fact, it's not really even a risk, it's an inevitability. He's going to get hurt and he's going to miss games and he's going to retire young, blah blah blah. I'm desperate for a center though, and I'll take any decent size I can get. I'm not even going to argue that he was the best available center. I had been without computer for almost a week and rushed in to something. The A's were lacking in 7-footers if you didn't figure that out.

He's tall enough to rebound and can block people's shots from time to time. More usefully though, he can take up maybe 15-20 minutes a game and get 6 fouls.

Who knows, maybe with the reduced workload he'd get 60 games a season for me.

Sammy,

I went to Illinois and love my man Lutha. But he had no business being drafted at all in this. He might not even be in the league next year.

ZOMG is Josh Childress "travel to Europe to play" prone?

Childress, WTF? For purposes of our league, he only plays one year now?

As a side note, if guys like Childress are jumping ship for Europe, Stern needs to cut the arrogant prick routine and seriously address this.

There's 1 guy available that starts late, and leaves quickly back to Europe, he's also really good but his time in the league is short. I guess you have to consider these players Europe prone.

Round 8, pick 311

Andray Blatche PF/C

Andray Blatche is only 21 but has shown a lot of flashes of talent. First off he is already a good defender and great shotblocker. He has great mobility, can handle the ball well, and can shoot well all for a guy of his size.

He has a ton of potential, has improved every year, and fits very well with my window as my team will not be ready to compete for titles by year 4, and by then Blatche will have had 7 years in the NBA (came straight from HS).

There is a ton of speculation around this pick obviously, but I think in a few years Blatche could end up being 4th-5th round talent (and maybe even higher than that), so it's worth the risk at the end of the 8th round.

I think so, a few other guys are, had we known this, Childress would've lost a lot of value!

Agree, Stern needs to address this NOW.

What else did you expect though? People just don't have many pieces leftover - hell, I only have 1 pick available!

Blatche is fine. He's the type of low risk high reward that is a steal this late in the draft.

Living in PHX, don't get to see the Wiz at all, so never heard of Blatche. From thw stats, Tyson Chandler / LaSalle Thompson had similar numbers at that age.

Andray Blatche has been perhaps the most coveted star of our N2 Fantasy League. Epip just won't let him go, though, despite all of our desperate efforts.
