Taking Luis Scola.

Damn it! I really hoped Scola would slip through the cracks.
Then again, if he's going already, he wouldn't have anyway.

scola is an excellent pick.

Scola is good. Brewer is a sick good pick, nath and I were looking at him in round 6. Excellent fit imo, brings a good wing defender to a team where his lack of shooting doesn't hurt you at all, plays with good passers who can feed it to him when he's open and he finishes very well.

Minny still has horrid guardplay and is paper thin. GSW lost some depth, but seems poised to replace it, and trades Baron for Maggette, which isn't great but its not the end of the world either. It's certainly not enough to make me think that last seasons huge disparity in wins between the two is suddenly going to evaporate.
This is not a good analysis imo. First of all, Minni added Mike Miller, which is a huuge upgrade at gaurd play (or wing if he plays more at the SF, but whatever). This alone is worth a good number of wins. Second of all, the rest of their gaurds are all young players who could improve slightly this year. Foye was hurt a lot of last year, and if he's healthy they add a few wins that way. He's not really a pure point or a great option but he brings something to the table (good 3pt shooting, some assists, not a lot of TO). Telfair still sucks at shooting but at least was dishing at a reasonable number of assists with low TO count. With Miller/Love coming to the team and Al J there, you don't need a lot of shooting from the PG position. Then you have Brewer/Carney/McCants and you really just hope one of these guys sticks and that the rest can play a few productive minutes off the bench (and McCants, for all the hate he gets, scores pretty well).

Second of all, they actually have good depth in the bigs. Al J/Kevin Love starting most likely, with Gomes and Craig Smith coming off the bench who are both good options there (per 36 they are 15/7 and 17/8 respectively). Kevin Love could come off the bench at first, who knows. Maybe I'm higher on him than most but he's going to help that team.

Minni basically projects to be a pretty good offensive team. They have a bunch of guys who can be fairly high usage players with high effiency (Al J, McCants and Miller) and others who can be somewhat lower efficiency players who play a productive role. They will be not good defensively.

GSW, otoh, has absolutely no gaurd depth at all. They have a huge log jam at the SF/PF spot but with a bunch of not ready or subpar players. Losing Baron Davis for a PG of Maggette's rough value would be one thing, but losing Baron Davis for another wing player who is an iso pure scorer who cannot pass or play defense is a pretty huge deal. Who runs that offense now... they have no depth at the G position at all. It's Ellis and CJ Watson and Bellinelli. I will take Minni there.

At the wing, GS has Maggette, Jackson, Azabuke, Barnes. Like I said, lotta scorers, not great D. The bigs situation is even more dire. Biedrins plays well but I think may suffer from lack of a true PG. Wright might be decent but I don't know how effective he will be banging down low with the big boys, and Harrington is whatever.

I think the teams are close, but GS is on the way down and Minni is on the way up and that could affect how things go at the end of the year.

Both of you guys make good points. My gut is kinda on Xorbie's side with this one, but I might have waited to see how the rest of the Woyas' offseason played out before making predictions. I think both teams are looking at somewhere around 32-35 wins this year.

In other news, for the 07-08 season, the road team held a 1040-886 edge in jump balls. Everyone run to the bookie with this bit of gold.

Edit: ignore that last part. it's actually 996-930 in favor of the home team. i should really test things before i post results.

I simply don't view Telfair as an NBA calibur player. Neither is Carney. Really, I think you're just overthinking it. Will bet more.

Anyone have stats on how many average free throws per game were taken year by year.

Im interested in comparing eightees ninties and the current free throw playoffs.

I use to look forward to every single season, but the officiating was so horrible in the playoffs that I am turned off from the NBA.

As far as I can tell, only 2 allstars left! Get 'em while they're hot!

Oh oops. Totally forgot that was this thread, too late to edit my post now though. Some of those guys could theoretically get drafted I guess.

Deal. I'll get on these at some point this week. Just been really busy at work, and then rocking the Summer League with no internet.

When I said we could easily go 10, Powe was the #1 thought on my mind. No doubt he was getting picked.

I think he's better than Thad. Has anyone talked about that yet?

originally my gut was with xorb's side, too, but I thought about it some more and talked with Clark about it that night and like the Warriors. I'm with you than Minnie is looking at ~35 wins if all goes well (Love is as good as he projects, injuries not a huge deal). But Woyas were a 48 win team. Does swapping Baron with Maggette really cause a 13 win drop? It'll be an interesting look into team dynamics, as xorb's point about the log jam at SF and their relative weak guard depth is an issue. I mean, we all love #s, but sometimes stuff like this gets overlooked. Just take a look at Chicago this season. Chemistry and lockerroom issues just completely killed that team.

Nath-

Nevermind, got the other 2. Thought one was picked already, and just totally zoned out on the other one.

also, put me in the camp that doesn't really give a damn about Nicholas's short write ups. It's no worse than spending way too many words trying to justify for your guys faults. Write ups need not be lengthy.

lol there is no way i'd rather have Powe than Thad even now but even more so in the future. Powe was def a pretty big reach imo hes overrated by a ton of Celtic fans just like Rondo is (although I do think Rondo can be special IF he gets a jump shot which he did start to show signs of this year)
