Round #7/Pick #255: Eddie A. Johnson
Before I explain why Eddie Johnson is awesome, I'll let him
do it for me. Just like the rest of my team, Johnson peaked early, which further solidifies my chances to contend in the first 5 years.
Defensively, Eddie will be below average in this league, which is why I'm happy that he'll have diminished defensive responsibility coming off the bench. However, Eddie shined offensively throughout his career. During his peak (which I'm going to arbitrarily define as the 11 years following and including his age-24 season), Eddie scored over 20 points per 36 in
every season, with a total TS% of .538. His full per 36 stats over this period are: 21.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 0.8 steals in 77 games per year. He did this playing 29 mpg (obviously higher in his earlier years) and won the
Sixth Man of the Year award in 88-89.
Reasoning:
Eddie Johnson further solidifies my bench, providing a consistent and durable spark off the bench. I believe he is easily the best wing scorer available, and am surprised he lasted this long. He has a good basketball IQ (he released a dvd called "Eddie Johnson's Jumpshot and Offensive Skills"), and will be a great locker room guy (has been a color commentator in both the NBA and the WNBA, and is also a motivational speaker).
My team is far:
PG: Kenny "The Jet" Smith
SG: Sid "The Squid" Moncrief
SF: Vince "Vinsanity" Carter
PF: Antonio McDyess
C: Mark Eaton
BN: Joe Barry Carroll (PF/C)
BN: Eddie A. Johnson (SG/SF)
battschr, you are on the clock...
