For instance, I have no problem with somebody discussing Drexler vs McHale just before the picks were made. The point of the game for me is who would you rather pick first to build around? Mc Hale or Drexler? Kidd or the other P.G.?

If we name players beforehand then people are going to take far less risks and they're going to follow the advice of everyone else too much. The point of the draft is to get DIFFERENT OPINIONS and then debate those opinions. If a few players continue to get mentions(LIKE HAS BEEN HAPPENING!) then people will limit their choices to those players because "OMG I don't want to look like an idiot and pick someone that nobody else was even considering here."
You guys are flat out wrong if you don't think that naming players influences other people.
