No, of course ts% isn't everything, but since these guys were drafted essentially to be shooters, and all of their other stats are pretty close, don't you think it's a pretty big difference?

Curry didn't start bombing 3s until he was 29. Yeah, he was a lethal 3 pt shooter, but in the 2nd half of his career. Until then you're looking at a guy who didn't have much of a 2pt game but never really shot a 3. It doesn't help that his timeline doesn't really match up too well with Clark's team either.

As I said, a lot of the good/great wing defenders who were marginal offensive players are going. While above average / all-star level offensive players are still available but most who are can't play any D.

Depends what you define marginal offensive as. If you mean marginal offensive players in terms of being able to create their own shot off the dribble, I obviously agree, and no one would expect any of these players to do this as the balls should be in their 1st-4th round picks hands, not their 5th-7ths.

However if you mean marginal as being able to spot up and hit shots and be very effective at off the ball offense (ball not in their hands) then I highly disagree.

These players are also much better at D than any of these all-star level offensive players are which is the major difference. Also these all-star offensive players also won't be able to fully take advantage of their skills since there is only one basketball and I personally want the ball in my 1st-4th round picks hands, not my 6th rounders.

The reason these players are going in the 5th-6th rounds is because they are more valueable as 5th-6th best players in this league than near all-star type players who play little/no defense.

Huh? Duncan, Penny, and AK47 are all extremely well known. Derek Harper, while not a superstar, isn't exactly going under anyone's radar. McCray is a former #3 overall pick. Outlaw went just after Herb Williams, and I'm willing to bet a lot more people have heard of Outlaw.

No real clue what you mean by masturbatory.

I always include team so far, just not always at the end of the post.

I'm honestly interested in why people feel Outlaw was a bad pick FOR MY TEAM. In my very first sentence of the writeup, I said that he wasn't the BPA. However, for my team I felt as if that was just what I wanted. I'm willing to listen to other arguments for sure, but I just don't see them. Is it that you all felt I could've gotten a better player and still gotten an Outlaw type later on?? That may be fair criticism I guess, but with the run on Campbell/Williams type players I didn't want to risk it.

He's really not that great of a 3 point shooter either. I know he played an important role in Utah's runs though. D is definitely going quick now though. I guess I'm glad most of my starters are good defensively.
B Russy is a solid but unspectacular pick, which I like at this stage of the draft.

Round 6 Pick 239

Jeff Malone

Stockon/Malone vol 2 y'all. Jeff Malone was my second choice for my 5th round pick, and he is far to great of value for me to pass up here. The instant offense off the bench guys are going quick and there would be no way for me to pick one up in my next pick. Malone is a great scorer and a great jumpshooter. He doesn't hit the 3ball, but his mid range game was one of the best in the NBA. He also has the ability to score in bunches and take over a game, something that I was looking for in my 6th man role. He averaged 19ppg for his career and made two NBA All-Star teams. His prime for this league is age 24-30 and he gave great numbers for those years while being durable.

I think that the ability to bring another scorer like Malone off the bench will open a lot of things up for me and allow to try and produce some mismatches on the court.

My Team:

PG: John Stockton
SG: Latrell Sprewell
SF: Chris Mullin
PF: Charles Oakley
C: Z
6th: Jeff Malone

i'm highly considering trading down, will field offers for the next few hours (already have a couple in the works), and will make a final decision by 6-7pm PST. here is a link to the spreadsheet to look at my and your picks.

sorry, i can't check as much during the next few hours because i'm packing up and driving 400 miles tonight (and will be semi-unavailable for the next couple days) but am for sure making a pick/trade before i leave

like the Malone pick...was my favorite player growing up as a Bullets(Wizards) fan...no clue why, but he was.

KLJ,

I'm not as interested in trading as before since theres multiple guys left who I want now, but I'd throw out the offer of:

We basically exchange picks in every round from here on out. You move up in the 8th/9th rounds, I move up in 7th/10th rounds.

At first I was going to offer you the same thing without swapping 10th round picks, but the fact that theres more than one guy I really want makes me less excited to move up. Let me know if you're interested.

Probably true....I just barely even remember watching, as I was young. I just remember him being my favorite and getting upset whenever someone said that Bernard King was our best player.

Seems like the most of the last dozen picks or so have been nice picks, imo.

This is the stuff this thread needs..not pissing contests about James Posey. Nice post, thanks.

for me, jury is out on durant. i agree with bowen (but only if we could have gotten bowen during his prime), and i think lee was good value but not great.

that's my exact take on those 3. Bowen sucked for a while, and I think his prime is generally being overrated here anyway. D-Lee was solid but nothing spectacular value wise.

I liked Lee alot, thought he could have gone a little sooner, but I knew a lot of people wanted him right after me and 1 guy actually offered a trade for him which I hadn't received for any of my other players.

I don't necessarily agree with any of those picks either, but just happy for a post that brings discussion. I think, 10 years from now if we look back on this that Durant will be a stunning #1 value. I think he is/is going to be better than many here credit him for. JMO.

this.

I think his floor is pretty much Melo who went in the 2nd round. His ceiling is a high first rounder. Yet he somehow went in the 4th. I guess it does suck to have to wait a few years, so I can understand why he fell....every team probably wants to contend immediately. But still I think he should've gone in the 3rd at worst.

Regarding Bowen...

He is imo the premier wing defender, slightly edging out Pip, MJ, and a few others for that spot. Maybe I just value defense more than others.

Regarding Lee....

His roland ratings are great. He rebounds well, defends at least average, and scores efficiently. Hes precisely the type of player that winning teams have imo.

Durant at number 1? really????...and Lee??...i agree with the rest of the list for the most part....heres my take on it...

Best value for their pick:
1. Hakeem 7
2. Mark Jackson 132
3. Moncreif 60
4. Mullin 67
5. Cummings 70
6. Larry Nance 53
7. Steve Smith 137
8. Pippen 25
9. Nick Anderson 208
10. Xavier Mcdaniel 237

I left McHale out of this list because I think its quite clear he would be number one on this list...he was clearly a Top 5 pick who slipped to 21. I think its actually more fun compiling a list of the "Top Ten WTF Picks" fwiw.

(putting Hakeem #1 on the list is just a me sayin I think he was a Top 3 pick and was very surprised he dropped to 7 btw)
