I am not going back through the thread but there is a big difference between naming DRob and somebody like Nique. Either way I don't care, this stuff is fun for me--just pointing out why some would care. Carry on.

I'm not talking about Robinson. Just off the top of my head, Kidd, Drexler, Ewing, Barkley, Howard, Kidd, Malone, and Isiah were all named before they were picked. None of them in the top 10. So apparently this has been considered acceptable.

never heard so much whining about something so stupid. Who cares if people are named? Is someone really forgetting about Wilkins or Grant Hill?

HSP,

Stop. You are currently #1 on the list of posters that I get complaints about. Try to be less obnoxious.

Its the point of naming someone on the basis of "Well if you guys name my super sleeper Baron Davis then I'm going to to name Nique!"

Saying someones name for discussion is 1000000x more acceptable than saying someones name just to say someones name.

Okay so let's discuss Nique since we've determined he's going to be picked shortly.

Since you quoted a post which was after my warning, I'll consider that to mean you chose to ignore me.

My recollection is that he was average, mostly due to his size (6'7" playing the 2, which helps).

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion Thread

grunching the thread, but people are having problems avoiding present day bias in evaluating these picks.

if the jkidd pick really is unpopular, its only because he's on the decline. is this the same level that he would be rated while he was on Team USA? i think people would be rating him higher, but that wouldn't make sense since we're supposed to evaluate based on his prime.

guys who can't shoot really irk me. Still don't think it's bad, though. Put him on a team with some finishers and he becomes pretty scary.

plus, might as well pick Rondo later and pick a true scorer or big man now

No it's correct, McHale constantly got double teamed/tripple teamed because he had the best post moves of all time, but also because he was not a willing passer. He was called the black hole for a reason (once the ball got into McHale it never came out) but a lot of that has to do with the success he had when scoring even when double/tripple teamed, he scored at a ridiculous high percentage off not a lot of easy baskets even while getting double/tripple teamed constantly so he was never forced to change his game.

And he didn't get the ball all the time, because his teams were stacked with offense, and he also came off the bench for a decent time of his career.

However I feel like with my coach I will get in later rounds, plus me as a GM, we will convince McHale to play a little better team basketball and pass the ball to the open man a little more (especially when we surround him with even more talent than he had in his celtic days).

Then again every PF/C who has to attempt to guard McHale (no one in NBA history could stop McHale) will be subject to the torture chamber (McHale's nickname for his post skills) and that is a scary scary thought for anyone attempting to guard him.

Has the number of owners been capped, or can I still sign up for this (the op says that people can sign up until the end of the first round, but I haven't read the entire thread so not sure if that has been changed). I would love to sign up for this if I still can.

All slightly different. Z is really odd because he was a disaster for like 4 years, then has been an iron man ever since.
Baron played all 82 games this year, but went through a long stretch where injuries truly hurt his effectiveness.

In the first two cases I don't see how injuries DONT count against you. I still expect TMac to be a 2nd (or early 3rd) round pick, but you're never getting 82 games, and it's possible he misses the playoffs.

Big Z I think had foot problems? But yeah looks like he's put it in his past. No idea what sort of ruling people would make

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion Thread

The Jason Kidd pick was very good, you get a tall PG who can guard either slot, his peak was around 25, so you get him just when he's turning into his best (best season was 22.5 PER)

these are the reasons kidd slipped:
1. your #1 pick is a guy who really even in his prime could not score. his highest per 36 mins is 18ppg when he was 29, and 16 when 22. Career wise he's 13.7 (or 14.2 on 37.3 mpg, his avg)
2. not only could he not score, he can't shoot, either. even at his best, his highest eFG% was .481 as a 32 yr old (weird his best shooting seasons have come late - sad that he was even worse of a shooter earlier) and owns a .453 eFG, which for this sort of league, means no one needs to put a good defender on him, and forces you to draft to his need; an excellent spot up 2 and/or 3 guard shooter so that people can't just constantly double team the post
3. one of the most unusual players since his skillset is unmatched, that said, he's fairly overrated due to his passing ability; he owns a career PER of 18.7, and still hasn't played through his entire decline (this year finished ~16.7, prob will play 2-3 more years at just under that production)

The positives are self evident and obviously he's great value at this stage but i still think there is another PG that should've gone before him.
