This thread has been chugging along fine, it's just when people stop picking that we fall into the McHale trap.

BigCat says if you don't score 20ppg, you ain't on my team. I don't really get BC's team just yet, but Im just a caveman, your modern ways frighten and confuse me, I watch your spirit box with the blinking lights and think, "are those little people trapped in that box?"

Yet for some reason, you still like to skew discussion with those meaningless stats. I don't get it.
Clark, if two players have similar bulk stats but one plays less minutes, then which one is more valuable? Obviously you'd like to have more info(such as efficiency stats), but solely based upon that given info, you'd have to say that the one who plays less minutes is more valuable, no?

So you're thereby admitting that heavy minutes can skew bulk stats. Thats all I was saying. Yes obviously its good to play more minutes. However, my point is that the gap between Wilt's bulk stats and the others isn't as big as it appears since to get a true measure you'd have to add the others bulk stats to the average bulk stats of a bench player who replaces them up to the amount of minutes Wilt played.

And about the luck and varience thing: maybe, but there are reason that we think of Tim Duncan more highly than Kevin Garnett. That we think of Hakeem more highly than we think of David Robinson. That we think of Tony Parker more highly than we do of Stephon Marbury. And it's because of the rings. Would Timmy have 4 if he had landed in Boston instead of San Antonio? Who knows.
I agree that the common fan thinks that way. I don't necessarily think that way. For example, I find Hakeem and Robinson to be about dead even, but I think the casual fan overrate Hakeem due to his title runs. I do have Duncan slightly above KG but its not because hes happened to play with more great players and therefore won more titles, as that was complete luck.

yea, sitting in front of a computer all day multitabling is just so much more fun and more profitable than playing in big buy in tourneys with a huge number of bad players.

The origin of Big Cat's name is that his last name rhymes with catfish so when were kids people called him catfish. The Big came into play when he stopped playing ball every day and proceeded to just smoke weed and eat In-N-Out every day and got fat. So now he is called big cat. Yes me and him are good friends but we are not the same person.
For the life of me, I can't think of a last name that rhymes with catfish.

Reggie Lewis pick is pretty grim IMO. Are you really going to play him until he dies, knowing that he has a congenital heart defect that will inevitably lead to his death if he plays sports on a daily basis? I know this is hypothetical, but I would think that knowing what we know now, there is no real person who would sign off on effectively killing a man for 20 ppg.

This doesn't come from a position of ethical superiority at all. Logistically, I just don't think that he ever sees the court in our hypothetical. I would like to see this pick removed and allow BigCat to re-pick b4 mmbt0ne does.

hahah yeah I knew everyone would be trying to figure it out. It's definitley a pretty random last name. I think he's only met one other person that has it.

this article is basically all about the reggie lewis death, and most doctors think it was because of cocaine use.
"Dr. Munn guided the others, but there wasn't much need: On the left ventricle of Mr. Lewis's heart were three black patches -- dead spots. Such dead tissue is most commonly caused by arteriosclerosis, mostly in older patients, or by viruses, drug use or a previous heart attack."
I posted this earlier regarding Lewis, and I still think the same thing. Good until the heart stops working, nothing (clearly) after that.

upon further research, it looks like his family (and he himself) had a history of heart problems.

how often are these "GMs" going to draft a player - only to say "write up coming later"???

how long does it take to write something up?...explain your pick at least...especially with a pick like Lewis, cmon.

Seriously, I can do a write up in 10 minutes, it's not hard to link a picture and write a couple of paragraphs.
