also, that 1993 Phx Suns team was stacked. Yet another team that was amazing but fell by the wayside. Tom Chambers, Barkley, Thunder Dan, and Danny Ainge. 3 really good white guys and charles.

Kurt Thomas - solid pick, like the pairing with a good passer like Yao.

Byron Scott - Like the value, love the fit. Having two great shooters around AI should give him more room to operate..

Danny Ainge - It's about f-ing time. He was the #1 combo guard on my list (I would have had him play point), and I probably take him in the late third or early fourth if I was unable to snag Hornacek. He's one of those players that's very solid, and did everything well with no weaknesses.

Really like the Ainge pick. Had him ahead of Barry at first, but then moved Barry up. Definitely would have been happy with either one.

That Suns team also had KJ and A.C. Green!!

Wow, Ainge, Scott, and Doc were 1,2,3 on my list. I'll writeup after I play pickup.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

I'd keep posting them, but there's way too many awesome Doc picks in the GIS. Seriously, great pick tbach24.

Doc's versatility- player, coach, guy who reads the newspaper really messily, golfer, guy who makes funny faces for pictures, doctor, nurse (when he's coaching poorly).

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

I like the scott and ainge picks. Doc was hurt so much, but when he played he was obviously really good. I think Bobbo's team would be a perennial championship contender. I do not think most teams I have seen yet would be.

Byron Scott in particular should've gone earlier. Kurt Thomas a great pick. Ainge a good pick. Gerald Wallace ok - way too many injury concerns that simply aren't going away though he obviously has a world of pure talent.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

Cowboy is up now? I really like his team so far (Payton, LJ, Sheed, Chandler). If nothing else, he wins my vote for fan favorite team. His team got jokes, yo!

As for who he should pick, looks like he needs a 2, so to me, the choice is pretty clear as to who he should take, but who knows.

well he definitely should go above Byron Scott.

Also, I'm hoping Bobbo gets a traditional SF in the 6th round and plays Danny as the 6th man. Don't really like his 1,2,3 spot combo right now. Much prefer Eddie at the 2.

Bench will have good shooters.
Uh every team in todays NBA needs 3pt shooters in both the starting lineup and off the bench, you need to be able to space the floor, there is only one basketball, and whenever Wade/Ellis/Wallace play together, 2 of them won't have it, and they will need to provide space so that teams don't clog the lane (which they def will vs u since u have no shooters).

Wade/Ellis can hit from midrange (not sure about Wallace), so they at least have to be guarded out there, but midrange shots are worse off the ball shots by far than 3pters are because a) the defender can get back a lot easier to the midrange shooter than the 3pt shooter allowing for easier double teams, b) 3pters are worth more in terms of the percentage u shoot them at ie if you shoot the 3 at 40 percent it's worth more than shooting the midrange at 50 percent

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

There are a couple players right now that from a pure talent standpoint, I would say are Top 25 BPA, but they are absolute locker room poison. It will be interesting to see when, if at all these players get taken, because these type of players don't usually cope well with a reduced role.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

IMO a lot of guys are underrating players' spacing. Do you think anyone would ever cheat off DWade? Hell, I doubt people even cheat off Monta Ellis a lot. The problem with those guys together is not the spacing, but more that they are most effective with the ball in their hands OR someone that can set them up. And since neither of them are really great at setting people up, it's goint to be "okay, it's your turn this time....okay this time is my turn...etc"
