Round 5, Pick 170: Kirk Hinrich
This one's simple. To fill out my starting lineup, I knew I wanted a PG who could shoot from the outside and distribute the ball to my scorers. So I plugged in what I thought were fairly modest career stats of .35 3P% and 5 A/PG into full court and checked it out. Somewhat suprisingly, the list wasn't that long and obviously most of the players were already taken. Of the ones remaining, Hinrich is the most balanced and the best fit for my team. His .377 career percentage from downtown will spread the floor. The low efficiency is mitigated by playing in the disfunctional Bulls offense of last year. Aside from that, he has shown steady improvement throughout his career.
Kirk is an above average rebounder for the position and has a relatively low turnover rate. His defense is very good, with three double digits win shares in five seasons and a 2nd team all defense award. His quickness, intelligence, and rebounding ability will help to run the transition offense effectively, setting up dunks for Big Al and Sammy or open three pointers. Kirk has also stayed healthy his entire career, playing in at least 75 games each year.
