When you trade up every round of course you'll team will be better. Also, I don't think you traded up every time for great value. Your overall team of course won't be as strong as others but your starting lineup should be.

In a way I see your point but I feel that there isn't much difference at all between the 6th round and the 10th round like there would be in a yahoo fantasy sports draft for example. I also think Deng/Butler were 2 of the last borderline possible stars to go, there are only very few left.

Now that BigChips has taken David West, it's going to take me like 2-3 hours to get my pick up.

nah, I know who it is

I can't think of one thing I made up, please enlighten me since you made the claim that I did.

edit: infact you should have to name multiple things I made up, since you implied that it was a common occurance.

So you think it's less than 1 in 100 he makes NO improvement? This is ludicrous. You can't imagine that he's at the top of his shooting form, will not add muscle to his little body, and w. all the scouting on him he wont raise his game to beat this? I'm not saying I think this will happen often - I too think he will be BETTER - but for you to call this 1% shows just how little you know about player progression.
Players improve at shooting once they get to the NBA. It's because of a number of things: 1) they take THOUSANDS of shots during practices. Muscle memory baby. 2) They get used to seeing different looks from teams. Experience baby. That's mostly it. But there's a reason that pretty much every player improves their shooting percentages throughout their career.

Re: Cassell v Durant. This is obviously a pretty even contest. This year Sam-I-Am was better than Kevin Durant, but it was close. Not sure why you'd want to argue this though.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/...anke01&y2=2008
You think I can't look up stats? Look, anyone who has watched Cassell play this season, knows he's a joke at this point. Durant shoots more at a higher TS%, gets to the line more often, rebounds the ball better, and absolutely plays better defense. I don't think you could play worse defense than Cassell at this point. Also, Durant only averaged 1.8 fouls per game, pretty sick number.

Quote:
So, basically, Sam Cassell played fewer mins, and while playing them, decided to shoot at a below average clip. KD shot even MORE often at the same poor clip, all the while playing worse defense. Rebounding is pretty similar, but Cassell has the edge bigtime in passing.
WTF? Cassell plays PG, he should have more assists. KD plays on (IMO) the least talented team in the league. He needs to shoot a lot. The only players on Durant's team that had higher TS% were big men, and big men have higher TS%'s than guards. And there is NO WAY that Cassell plays better defense than Durant

And Bobbo, what qualifies you say that I don't know about player development and that you do? Was it the 1 year of basketball you followed? Is it the fact that a year ago you had never heard of Al Jefferson? Is it the fact that you became obsessed with basketball, but merely the statistical portion of the game?

You act like you have this great dearth of knowledge about basketball, but you merely study stats. It's not that hard to do that.

David West is a good pick, another one of those last few borderline stars to go.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

David west is a great player and great value at this point, but fits horribly with this team.

Youve already got The dream whos gonna get a ton of touches in the post, then you got odom who also likes to post and play around the elbow, and now west who hangs around the same areas ? The court is gonna be clogged up and your defense is gonna be super slow on the perimeter.

I think you should have gone with a smaller shooting guard type small forward similar to rice but better defender. Although I think by taking west you can trade him later on for more of your needs.

Also I hate the rodney mcray pick assani. You went way to concervative with that pick.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion

I think the West/Odom front court would be really intriguing, but like NPP, I don't like that they're with the Dream. If they were with Dikembe/Chandler/etc., that'd be hot. If you could get Odom to agree to never shoot, that'd be another story.

This is actually a really good point, I didn't even look at his team when he made the pick, but I def agree with what you said, very good pick in terms of value but very bad fit.

This is why this forum gets on my nerves, everyone uses stats to back up arguments about comparable players.

As I said in the writeup....great defense, highly efficient offense, and solid assist/rebounding for your position aren't always the sexy things. But imo thats what wins basketball games. I'm absolutely stacked defensively now. I needed a premier wing defender in order to have a completely dominating defense imo, so I targetted one. I had my eyes on others, but they weren't nearly as efficient on offense, nor did they have the ability to create on offense like McCray does.

I wouldn't be surprised if nobody considers my team a contender at first glance. But when you sit down and look at the numbers and watch these guys play, you realize that they're the type of players that win games imo.

I could be wrong, but thats my viewpoint and strategy.

David West is not an under the basket post player that's exactly why I picked him. You can run the pick N Roll with him and he can spot up from the 15-20 foot range and hit it with consistency. David West and Hakeem will work fine together.

great value but sort of a weird fit. But I also can see it working. West is more of an iso-jump shooter, not a low-block operator like Dream. Odom is now a 3rd-4th banana which is just fine for his high ass. Defensively though I can see some tough mismatches, but also some very favorable one.
