Round #4, Pick #133: Toni Kukoc

I think Kukoc is a great fit for my team, as he bring a strong all-around game as a good spot up shooter, passer, and rebounder. He played a distinctive European style but was still a very effective player even coming off the bench behind Pippen on the Bulls. He had a very high basketball IQ and better court vision than many point guards. Kukoc's unselfishness will be a good asset as Marbury and Barkley will take a lot of shots, and he's good enough at passing and moving without the ball to to get open and find them for open shots. He is also 6'10, creating potential mismatches against smaller forwards and guards (he is listed as a F/G, not sure how much guard he played but would like to find out). I'm not sure how good he was on defense, but he averaged a 103 d-rating with Chicago which is pretty respectable, and if he's good enough for the 90's bulls he's good enough for my team.

Kukoc is another player whose actual career path probably has led people to underrate him, as the Bulls team got blown up after Jordan retired, and he was constantly getting traded around to bad teams where he was not a good fit and played on mostly tepid offenses. On my team, Kukoc is starting, not coming off the bench, and gets a chance to showcase his skills on a strong team.

Team so far:
Charles Barkley
Stephon Marbury
Kevin Willis
Toni Kukoc

Mark Jackson + Marv Albert for Nets broadcasts on YES is perhaps my favorite booth of all time. Oh man Mark's enthusiasm for hustle plays and Vince Carter just made for some great times.

Like the Kukoc pick, not sure how a Marbury/Kukoc/Barkley/Willis team is working out but I still like the pick.

Kukoc was the non center I was thinking about instead of Z or Smits. Thoughts on how him and Mullin would have worked at the 2/3?

I thought it was to big of a ? mark.

Vin was/could have been great, probably a 2nd rounder if he stays sober.

There is obviously going to be some discussion on this pick and the possible inevitabilty of Vin's alcoholism. I think its probably a topic that is well beyond the scope of the thread, but Ill say this:

I don't think the individual team situation has much to do with it. Something in Vin's personal life likely pressured him into alcohol. I think its something that should probably considered inevitable for Vin.

I've been waiting a long time for Jax to get picked. Great value here and love him with Malone. It's not Horford value but it's close.

Kc-

You're killing me with the Jackson impersonations. Gold.

I like the Jackson and Kukoc picks. Both will work well on their respective teams.

Love the Dalembert pick, especially with that team. Fwiw Al J does have a little bit of range on his jumper, and who cares about shooting from the post players when you have Kobe/Rashard Lewis?

Right now this looks like one of the best teams along with Bobbo, Seadood, sergz and Epip.

Lurchy's team is good, but I have no idea who he's going to take in the fifth. The remaining centers are all pretty crappy, so it might be best to get a 6th man and then just get some stiff in the 6th/whenever.

it matters significantly if he was hurt mid-season or not. if he did, he won't necessarily get hurt like that again. if he was hurt before the season, you're SOL
