Yes that is correct. That is what the rules state. And my interpretation of those rules was that it didn't address this specific issue and we needed to clarify the rules and consider what everyone wanted.

I agree completely with you there. Now what are you arguing?

i realize that it sucks that nobody is picking and there is no new stuff to talk about, but i think people would rather there be no new posts rather than having to sift through these debates.

Victor,

I apologize for calling you 100% wrong. I still disagree with your statement and think it is wrong, but I will drop it since its a pretty silly debate over semantics(i.e. you pretty much can never use "anyone" or "everyone" in a statement unless you've asked every single person on earth). I did not want to start an "internet fight." I don't like internet fights; I love debates about sports, especially basketball. I find them very enjoyable and I often make friends with the people I debate with. For some reason, you did not enjoy our debate but you got angry at me and took it personally. I'm still not sure why this is. This is now the 3rd post I've made apologizing to you, so I'm completely unsure how you could hold such a grudge against me. Nevertheless, I apologize for offending you. I do not like to piss people off with nittery. If feel as if you are being the nit here though, as I'm just trying to make wise decisions for the good of the league and you're going to great lengths to argue semantics and taking offense to my statement that your statement was wrong. I just like to debate sports; I don't like to argue semantics, and I definitely never get angry nor do I try to make people angry. Best wishes.

Assani

We should have just canceled and restarted the draft midway through the first round when we realized the problem of having the arbitrary age of 24. The draft was less than 5% completed. The fairest way would be to let people take their player at whatever age they want. However I will give you credit for choosing 24, if you had to choose an ideal year for most players this would be it.

going to play poker now...if others chime in and disagree with my ruling, then hold up the draft and we'll reconsider things. Again, I want to make sure people are happy with the ruling and I'm very willing to consider other opinions here.

Terrel Brandon is a nice pick.
I did not eve consider as in my memory he was the definition of injury prone and had like two good seasons, but lookin at basketballreference, it's clear that he gives you a couple of years of good value.

Allright, I pick Emeka Okafor.
It was a tough choices because there are players available that have much better value, but are terrible fit for my team.
So I’ve chosen to keep up with my original strategy, and here’s another nice role player to help Lebron James. More detailed write up later.
My team:Petrovc/James/Grant /okafor

very meh on that pick. with grant in the middle don't know if there is that much need for okafor defensively. i'd just love lebron to be paired with a high flyer / scorer off the ball type.

I think the pick works well, Okafur isn't great but he's not a total stiff and between him and Grant they can add a bit of scoring (better than watching Lebron out there with Ben Wallace), and you shore up a pretty solid front court to go with a mediocre/poor wing defense. All your scoring is going to come from the wings anyway.

Defensively, he's a good combo with Grant because he's a very good rebounder and shot blocker, two areas where Grant is average.
I agree that a high flyer can be nice, but I can get someone athletic in the next rounds. I reallydon't need a scorer right now and I want to make up defensively for my petrovic pick.
Finally, both Grant and okafor are competent scorers, which is nice as they 're going ot be at best third and fourth option offensively.

Lots of picks this evening.

Terrell Brandon and Sam Cassell were great picks imo. They are two very different players with different careers, but I had them rated about even, and higher than many of the last 5 or so PGs. TB was also one of my favorite PGs growing up behind the guy he replaced.

Dunno if I like the JSmooth/Jordan/Camby picks. Basically you've got two low IQ (IMO)/high athleticism players paired up with one of the greatest perfectionists there was. I think the chemistry would suffer as soon as one of those guys leaves there man to go after a block... So like, 19 seconds into the first pre-season games. Jordan succeeded with guys that knew their role and played it well. I just think those other guys don't always stick to what their best at.

All of the big men that have gone recently represent good value, imo, and were better than some taken before them.

I would've put Drazen above Kevin Martin, and possibly others that were drafted before him. Completely ruling out the accident, which we should, he's basically a player who'd played godlike in Europe for many years, then came here and had great production despite being buried behind the bench (his /36 numbers were consistent). He was pretty healthy his whole career, and didn't have the type of high-contact game that would lead you to beleive he'd spend a lot of time in a 2-peice. I completely dismiss his "attitude" issues, because I always felt he was mistreated.

Love the way your team is constructed right now Horizon. I disagree with popinjay that you really need a high flyer as Lebron is one of the best at taking the ball to the rim. Also, if you do that that your team looks really odd as you have Grant at the 5 and Lebron at the 4 which doesn't make any sense. Unless you meant that you should get a high flying PG of which I'm not sure there are many or you want petrovic or Lebron to be PG which while interesting, I'm not sure would be super effective. Right now you have a great scorer in Lebron, a great shooter in Petrovic, and 2 awesome post defenders who complement each other really well (grant plays very good 1 on 1 post defense, okafor is a great rebounder/ weakside defender) that aren't total zeros on offense like eaton or wallace. This sounds pretty obvious but all you need now is a solid PG and your team looks great. Given that you have a ton of offense at 2/3 and mediocre offense at 4/5 you're not pressed into a PG that needs to score very well. Someone like mookie would be a great fit for this team in that it would give you good give perimeter D and good passing.

Is okafor at the 2 spot? LoL jk but seriously okafor and grant are in the 4/5 spots interchangeably. I like okafor but he has not lived up to his potential/injury issues.

they're both a bit small for the center spot and the okafor ankle thing is really bothersome, but I like how your team is in general

I'm not big on the ankle thing, but since he played 82 games last year, he's probably relatively healthy.
Shame that he seems to have regressed last year though.

But when healthy this is a good pick. 14 and 11 at a low usage with good defense is yummy. I really like the way your team is shaping up.

can a mod edit this into the other thread

Round 3 Pick 120

Josh Smith AKA J-Smoove

Josh Smith is a supremely talented true 3 that occasionally has focus problem and poor shot selection. Paired with MJ I am hoping that Smith will take his game and maturity to the next level. He is an athletic freak with the ability to normally jump out of the gym. At only 22 years and already in the league for 4 years there is no reason to think that his game will not continue to steadily improve.

He has not shown any injury concerns having played 74, 80, 72, 81 games respectively. He has shown the ability to stay on the court and with Camby and Jordan forcing blocks and turnovers having a great open court finisher is a must and that is what Smith brings to the table. He is also an outstanding defender who will also trigger multiple fast breaks with his simply fantastic block numbers. He has shown signs that he is mildly ******ed continually shooting 3s when he is <20%, but his PER has risen each year in the league, climbing from 15.4 to 15.5 to 18.3 to an impressive 19.0 this past year.

Josh Smith has never had a true leader on any of his Hawks teams and Mike Woodson is an awful coach and with MJ he finally has a true leader to respect and answer to. Smith won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest his rookie year during the 2005 NBA All-Star Weekend. He averaged 9.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.95 blocks per game for the 2004-2005 season and was selected to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. For the 2005-06 season, Smith averaged 2.25 blocks per game, ranking seventh in the NBA.

After the NBA All-Star Weekend, he would continue his steady development. He finished 2nd in the NBA in total blocks, 4th in blocks per game and averaged 15.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 4.1 apg, 3.1 bpg and 1.0 spg after the All-Star break and his contribution helped the Hawks double their win total of 13 wins from the previous season to finish 26-56.

On March 3, 2007, Smith broke the 500 block mark, making him the youngest player to do so in NBA history. Smith ended the 2006-2007 season with 16.4 points per game, 8.6 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.9 blocks, dramatically improving on his previous season's stats. Leading the Hawks after Joe Johnson's season ending injury, Smith produced a career high 32 points and 19 rebounds in Johnson's absence. He eclipsed this mark on November 17, 2007 with a new career high of 38 points on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks.

I was thinking about pairing Omeka with D12 and Iggy but that would make 4 guys from the same draft class. I like all the guys but I think it would probally overdue the class.

I don't mind the ruling as long as people don't use it as a way to cherry-pick when someone's career starts. (not the case here)
