Well, really I think that a better way of stating it is that you get the player @ their peak. Steve Nash, for example, you would clearly have to get for one of his two MVP years, well past 24. Ya or Nay?

So in other words flying moose should pick players who were already really good at 24 and focus less on longevity.

Would you really want to get Nash at 31 if you have to play multiple years?

Assani goes from forum head case to forum king in a single thread. Epic move, I just wanted to chime in that I agree CP3 was a reach.

Nash at 31 wouldn't be that much different than Isiah at 24 would it? You get two great years and then a steady decline. I'm not comparing their abilities, just the type of return you could theorettically expect for each.

Its a shame you didn't chime in before we started picking.

I think the idea is that you get a player at 24 and you keep them for their entire career (multiple seasons, at least). This is a world where everything is rerun, so Karl Malone is going to have different stats than he actually put up (and different seasons), etc. Magic might not get AIDS, Bird might not get a back problem, but Magic had a lot of ladies, and Bird will have a susceptibility to back problems.

This is how I see it, neway.

I agree. Both are at their peak, period. We can only compare players on the court, so we need a basis of comparison year.

I think Kobe has been better the last few years than when he was 24 as another example of a player who did not nessecarily peak @ 24. Obv he was still elite @ 24, but still - his game has grown since then.

Not really.

You get each player at 24- almost everyone is already at or near there peak by now, so thats why I picked that age.

However, longevity will definitely help your franchise years down the road. But if you want to win now then go for it. Really no "wrong" strategy.

Basically....just pick the best players. I don't want to overcomplicate things here. Just build the best franchise you can.

btw put me in the camp that says that Nash just "got better" due to changing over to Phoenix and a system that highlighted his strengths and let him run the show. I don't think he magically improved a ton once he reached 30.

Don't like the Dirk pick.

I believe dirk was the only correct choice there.

If Isiah was spew at 15, Dirk is certifiable life tilt at 16.

Eh, not really....

I think you think Nash was a good but not great player who was made to look better by a great system in Phoenix.

I think Nash was always a great player who was never made the focal point of the offense until Phoenix, and when he was his greatness showed.

Also Dirk at #16 is easily the worst pick by far in this draft so far and it's not even close

Dirk is way closer to best pick in the draft so far than worst. WTF? This is good value, IMO.

Not a single player I think even close to Dirk (looking at the numbers at least).

Isiah was a terrible, terrible pick partly because this guy was still on board. Who the hell is better (probably should stop commenting in thread, so PM me with names, k?)

meh.. I don't hate the pick. I think I might have gone with one other guy. Medium surprised he's still available. If he's not gone by 20 I'll be shocked.

Come on, Dirk isn't that big of a spew. The quality 7 footers will all be gone shortly
