I think you're describing his more current role with the Jazz. Back in the day he would guard 4's. I called GKA and was like "someone picked AK" and he started blabbing about how back in the day he was tremendous at guarding the PF position and how out of position he is now guarding swingmen.

AK47 is a good player, I think he's a bit passive offensively though but makes it up by being a great defender and a good but not great offensive player. He blocks, steals, rebounds, passes all really well and he shoots efficiently his role has just diminished. Isn't he a max or near max player. If we involved salary cap I think he'd be overpaid, but since we aren't I think he's very good value right now, I was considering taking him but I think he's not a good enough aggressive scorer for my tastes.

on offense it doesn't matter if he's a 3 or 4, he'll likely stand at the perimeter and take wide open 3s if you give it to him, and occasionally he'll do something cool like dribble penetrate and dish or come out of nowhere for a putback dunk, but most of the time he just sorta stands there or runs from one end to the other. on defense just match him up with their worst player, and you'll have one of the best help defenders ever..
Appriciate the insight man. Sorry for belaboring this point, but let me give an example and ask and keep in mind that I'm only talking about him on defense here:

Say hes playing a team that has:

SF TMac
PF Karl Malone
C Mark Eaton

Would he really guard the 7ft 3 in 275lb Eaton? What if instead of Eaton I chose a big center who had a little better scoring skills(obviously I can't name names who havn't been drafted which is why I'm struggling for examples)?

On offense, I agree with you that it doesn't matter too much.

Basically what I'm getting at is that I would really like to play him at the 4(i.e. guard the other team's weakest offensive big man) but I'm concerned that with many of the stacked teams here hes either going to have to guard a very good scoring PF or a C who is physically much bigger than him. Will he be ok doing this? If so, then I'm extremely happy with my team because that allows me to draft another SF, which I think is a deeper position at this point in the draft.

I assume we're all blabbing about AK cuz we know Cassell was a ****ing steal this late in the draft.

Cassell is probally the best overall PG left in the draft. I think he should have gone sooner, then again I'm big into big guys and PGs early in this draft.

As you pointed out Cassell is a huge liability defensively but offensively he's probally easily the best guy available who can pass and score atleast semi-efficiently.

No suprise he was picked......so your right there isn't a ton to comment on.

Not a huge fan of your D, yet. Larry is a good defensive player and Vlade is a good but not great defender but can "party in the paint" and take charges. I think you need a guy who can really guard the paint and block shots and I'm not sure who will be available when you pick soon but I guess you can look for that.

You can always get a defensive 5 to play beside Vlade, there are a decent amount of those

Sam was indeed BPA by a fair margin over everybody except for one other guy, IMO.

Bobbo went out but we were just discussing this and we came to this conclusion. He guards 3/4's very well, but couldn't handle a strong PF. So in your example, we would get dominated by Malone and Eaton, so would guard T-Mac. Unfortunately, he's not really quick enough to guard a T-Mac, so he'd get hurt there too, but his help D is pretty good either way.

I missed out on the D train the minute I took Bird over guys like Duncan, KG, D-Rob and Hakeem. I'm just out to slit throats.

Williams got the nickname "Hot Rod" as a baby due to his habit of scooting backwards across the floor while making engine-like sounds.

I don't know anything about him. Statistically, he seems like a skinny-ish 4 who was decent offensively and a bit above average defensively.

there's a decent chance horizon picks in the next few hours as well, and FaDi and Steroid Boy both have been checking back with the thread. looks good.

One thing I realize is you have pretty damn good passers from your 3 top players, shoudl be an interesting team. Maybe instead of all white you can go for rediculous passing.

I think if you were looking for longevity at that position, Hot Rod is prob the best player left. But there are certainly players at the same position with higher peaks.

ak is so played up is rediculous. i think he may be one of the most overrated players in the league. he does nothing on offense except catch the ball on the outside and then pass it to someone else out there. mebbe dribble a few times. sometimes he launches an uglyass 3.

everyone says hes a great defender but i just dont think it makes up for it.

he may have all the tools but he really doesnt use them.

Vic he has very good hands and finishes well around the basket, but boozer takes up that roll on the Jazz right now.

but the guys he's in comparison to, he isn't that much better or worse imo. battier and prince aren't anything special offensively either. battier can pop the side 3 and prince can dribble pretty well and make a hook but I've never been that impressed with his game.

gawd i hate this argument. he played awesome for half a year. very good for 69 games. and now 2 yrs of moderately above average ball.

and u think hes better than prince who played every fckn game for 5 yrs and was 2nd team all defensive every year on a team that won a shtload of games.

y'all know that AK has multiple 5x5 games right? he used to be one of the best all around players in the league hands down. he's definitely slid a bit over the past few years, but he's still an all-around threat, and exactly the type of guy i'd like to pick up this late in the draft.

I think he's certainly nowhere near BPA, but teams without centers have to reach at this point, or just play small ball.

As centers go, he was Top 5 left, IMO.
