Ok fanmail - I put you in - sorry for missing you.

I would highly suggest if theres going to be any more joiners - to join within the next 10 minutes...becuase I cant edit the picking order list after that. lol - sounds stupid - but im serious...the only way we can do this successfully is to be totally organized on this.

Round #1 PIC# 3LEBRON JAMES

At this point, the strategy is just to pick the best available player, no need to worry about position or an overall strategy.
It's not easy to take James over Bird or Magic, but I feel that is as a legit shot at becoming the best player ever.
He 's already amazing but he's still so young. I mean he's only 23., basically the same age as Bird when he plyaed his rookie year.
What's scary is that he has room for improvement. He can add a jumpshot, he be an excellent defender.he has already improved a lot this year.

This is the dumbest 3rd pick ive ever seen in my goddamn life. That is all. You're basically telling me Lebron is the 3rd best player in NBA history at the age of 23. He's not even close to that level yet, wtf is going on here, wtf.

LBJ is a pretty bad 3rd pick. I'd have gone with Magic with that pic, but I am a lakers homer.

you mean you haven't even started scouting for 6th and 7th round sleepers yet?

IMO picks 1 and 2 were obvious, pick 3 had 4 options which were all acceptable (Magic, assuming HIV doesn't carry over into this fantasy draft, Kobe, Bird, LBJ). I don't think horizon said he's the 3rd best player in the modern era yet, but based on potential and the skillset he already has, he has potential to be the best player ever if he can stay away from injury and stay at his current production level for 12-15 more years. Take LBJ against the other greats at 23 years old and I think he matches up very well.

I had Lebron as my #2 behind MJ, and I could see a case for him as #1. I most definitely thought that the top 3(MJ, Shaq, Lebron) were in the top tier by themselves.

EVERYONE PLEASE NOTE THIS RULE: DISCUSSION OF PICKS MADE IS ENCOURAGED OF COURSE. HOWEVER PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS ANYBODY THAT HASN'T BEEN PICKED YET OR SAY WHO YOU'D PICK NEXT OR WHO YOU WOULD'VE PICKED(IF THEY HAVN'T BEEN PICKED YET).

We want a ton of differing viewpoints presented here in the picks because that will lead to better discussion. If a ton of people chime in with thoughts before someone's pick then that will influence them to follow the herd moreso, which will make for little to no debate.

I see your point, but it limits the discussion to a degree.

I do think posts like "omg wtf obv should have picked Magic" should be avoided

I didn't think it was too bad, but I would've done something different. Lebron is someone I would've definitely taken had he fallen to me at 8th.

Without discussing other players, I'm shocked that others are hating on this pick. Do you really think theres not a >50% chance that Lebron ends up having a better career than any one player left on the draft board? 30.0 points, 7.2 assists, 7.9 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks as a 23 year old this year!!!!! Its a big "if", but if he can mimic Jordan's improvement on his jump shot, then I see him as the clear best player of all time.

Yeah, the problem is injury and longevity of course. If LBJ has some problems down the line we don't know about yet..

I mean, not a terrible pick or anything, but definitely a risky one.

Magic is a pretty interesting one. I don't know how long that career goes without HIV.

Problem I have with LBJ is his low fg% compared to other stars. This is mostly due to him taking way too many threes. And by "Way too many," I mean "more than 0"

I know it's not the appropriate thread but, I remember when he got AIDS, but I was still a yung'in then so I don't really know. Was it like the biggest thing to ever happen? Compare it to a contemporary sports story please.

Better coaching and better teammates would easily fix this problem.

Lebron's eFG% of 51.8% this year isn't bad at all. I think you're comparing him to players from the 80s, which isn't fair since the league as a whole shot much better from the field back then(imo due to much much worse defensive play than today, which is backed up by the fact that players today shoot just as well from the FT line or in 3 point competitions).

Lebron's TS% is still like .568 this year, which is damn good (at a ridic high usage). FG% = w/e.

btw in only 6 out of his 16 seasons did Jordan have a higher eFG% than Lebron did this year.

But that's more of a failing of eFG than anything. A 50% 2 pt shot is way better than a 33% 3 point shot for quite a few reasons. A 33% 3pt shot is usually not the highest percentage play, will almost never send you to the line, and has a pretty high chance of leading to fast break points on a long rebound.

MJ at least knew he sucked at 3s so he didn't take them. I guess I'm making too big a deal over this, but low percentage 3 pointers tilt me.
