Defensively I think they both are excellent, so a lot of "who's better" depends on what type of a team you have. For instance I would prefer a guy like Battier on my team (KG, Laimbeer, Hornacek) because I'd want more spacing, and obv. more guys that can hit the 3. And while their three point shooting %s are fairly similar, Battier's is a little more prolific and makes more long range shots.
Exactly. I'm not trying to say Battier is better, but Tayshaun isn't anywhere close to as good as AC-Cobra is making it out to be.

Why are we grading the third round already when there are still 40% of the picks left?

I'm no sure why you're calling a 1.3 difference in PER significant. Want me to find stats Battier is significantly better in? Wins Produced, WSAA, whatever. Add them all together and you'll find that they're both about equal.

Also, I'm not really sure you should be using T-Mac (27 games missed, sub .500 TS%) and Yao (60 games missed) against Shane Battier. The Rockets are a pretty terrible offensive team, but he's got on of the highest ORtgs in the league. Besides, he did the same things in Memphis, and all that team had was Pau Gasol.

And Tayshaun doesn't put up "good efficient offense." It's below average.
Ok, I still think Tayshaun>Battier but maybe I overeacted in the gap between them originally.

I think if Im re ranking these guys now I go something like...

Eddie Jones
Mark Aguirre
Joe Johnson
Michael Redd
Alvin Robertson
Michael Finley
Dale Ellis

I think Jones to Robertson is tight with the other two a slight bit behind the pack (and I may be underating Robertson I think)
Too lazy to do the rankings (sorry), but I really think JJ reminds me of a slightly less efficient version of Paul Pierce. Good but not stellar long range shooting, the ability to take over games, and the ability and willingness to get other players involved.

How is JJ's defense BTW? I didn't watch a lot of Hawk games this year, and the playoffs weren't neccesarily a good gauge imo. I wanted him if he fell, and the only thing I had to go by was hoopshype's scouting report saying that he "does everything, plays defense etc.... "

well he doesn't get a lot of steals, has a bad DRtg, bad DWS, and whenever i've watched him i've always been less than impressed, but i'd be more interested in what mmbt0ne and other hawks fans have to say.

Battier blocks and rebounds better, too. Plus, Tayshaun started at 22, so you miss two of his years as opposed to one from Battier.

I think there are players out there similar to Battier which would make it look bad. Tayshaun isn't one of them.
Tayshaun creates his own shot. Battier doesn't. Hell, the Pistons offense might operates its best when Tay brings the ball down the court (which is more frequent than most might think).

Word.

I hope nath doesn't take your guy because I'm leaving for the day and haven't even checked what's available since my last pick. I might be shutting this thread down in epic HSP fashion if the trade falls through.
