Firstly, there were many more options to take over Vince...secondly - Im fukd! - I have no clue who is left to take...Im looking to fill the centre spot - but theres no one left.

The 11th pick is this draft is the worst pick by far...I dont get a Top Ten pick but I have to wait a chit load of time to wait for my next pick...and trading down with my 11th spot doesnt really have much value to others.

ok, the Tayshaun Prince pick is even better given who he has on his team. Price/Stoudamire needed someone who can be a + on defense, and that's Tayshaun. He can run the floor too.

People may forget Tay Tay is 6'9 (!) and has a larger wingspan than that. (7ft IIRC) If he added muscle he could check PFs with some regularity, but as is he's a great wingman.

Eh, I'd really not want Tay playing the 4. Amare is just not going to be able to check a lot of the centers/PF so you still want a respectable post defender... Amare/Prince actually makes for great help D.

wow. three GREAT picks today. i dont think JJ is 2nd round value like some guys are saying, but he's definitely been one of the top 5 guys available for awhile (i probably would've ended up taking him had sabonis been picked). tayshaun is really underrated. he's part of the reason i didn't wanna say that battier was a great pick. mostly because tayshaun is better. and eaton...it's solid. guys got beastly numbers. and is just a beast. and now KLJ has 4 f**king players and his fave 5 is rounding out.

Guys Prince isn't even an elite defender, his DRTG the last 4 years has been 104, 106, 107, 106 jesus Manu is a much much much better defender than Prince since his last 4 years of DRTG were 98, 98, 98, 100.

yeah prince is great for price/amare. you just need a sorta center now. still no interior presence on this team.

Eaton is great value right now, I considered him earlier this round but decided to go for scoring instead. I don't know how anyone is going to score on KLJ's team, Moncrief, McDyess, Eaton, Vince can loaf like he's back in Toronto and it won't matter.

huh?? McDyess and Vince aren't very good defensive players (heck Vince is pretty awful).

Looking over Eaton's numbers again, he defines all defense no offense. I think given his team, this works, but he had 1.3 or fewer win shares 9 out of his 11 year career. he produced zero offensive wins in 6 of those 9 seasons, too. heh. anyone know why he was a 26 yr old rookie?

>50% TS mark; >11 PER for his career; under 30mpg for his career (although he did play 28-32, his peak, all above 30 mins with quite a lot of durability, so i dont think mins will be an issue) at least he's a solid offensive rebounder, bc in an offensive possession that's all you're getting from him. (and for his career he went to the line fewer than twice a game, that is not a good sign)

people making comparisons to biedrins/chandler/etc, i dunno, those guys do produce at an efficient albeit small sample on offense, eaton is neither efficient nor bulk or anything on offense. plus, the argument about system wont really work, he played on a team with the best passing PG of all time, so if he couldnt get easy buckets with him, he cant get easy buckets with ANYONE.

Agreed, Eaton is a good pick, he was one of the stingiest defensive players in his day. In fact he was probably even better than Wallace, which is why that was such a LOL pick.
Is Eaton a great one-on-one defender as well or is he just a shot blocker?

very good against physical guys, since you couldn't move him in the post at all (dude was a goliath, not a stickman!)

The only Eaton video I could find was one of KJ dunking on him, but good lord that guy was huge.

According to Wiki he was an old rookie b/c out of high school he became an auto mechanic ?

A perfect example of why these statistics are overrated. Anyone saying Prince isn't an elite defender either...

1. Hasn't watched him play much
2. Doesn't know much about basketball
3. Has a hard-on for Kevin McHale

And the idea that Manu is a better defender is absurd.

it's important to know exactly what drtg is to see why it can be ineffective.

DRtg is simply points allowed/100 poss. For player's it's PA/100 poss while on the floor.

Average pts/100 poss was 107.5 this year.

Is it possible that the Detroit Pistons back court is overrated on D? Their front court has high D-Rtg, their back court has low D-Rtg. The backup back court players tend to be better.

Hmmm..

Of course, DRtg is a team stat, and it can't account for who you're guarding, etc. But it's something to think about.

Just got back from dinner will have a pick up soon have to decide between a few people. Eaton was pretty high up on my list but I too did not like the complete lack of offense.

Remember that their backup back court players are going against a lot of other backups most of the time.

Also I did not know it was points scored while u were on the floor, I thought it was points scored by ur man? If so why do all the bigmen usually have much lower drtg's than guards, shouldn't they be roughly the same?
