The other reason Marbury shoots too much is because like I said earlier, overall he's had a pathetic lot of GMs and coaches.
Interesting.

we (dorks) have all said that at one time or another. It doesn't mean we see 10% TS% swings due to team make up or some BS.

yeah no doubt. But I just think you can look at general trends in the data and see "man he's got pretty weak/bad/mediocre #s" (marbury) or "man his TS% ranges from good to very good" (Pierce).

Yes, one reason being they are better players than Marbury, that's why they were drafted #9 and #28. Another reason being that they are both in primary scoring positions, while Marbury is a point guard, a hard position to succeed at if the guys you're trying to pass to can't get open or can't shoot.

Prince is the guy who I thought did everything Battier did but better.

KLJ selects mark eaton. I have his writeup, I was grabbing dinner which is why I didn't post immediately. BJL is next, I'll PM him

eaton is a sick pick considering camby, chandler, beindrins went before him, eaton is a better defender than all 3.

Eaton was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the 72nd overall pick in 1982. He hadn't played much in college at UCLA (go bruins), and was drafted largely because of his size (listed between 7'3"/275 and 7'4"/290). Utah coach Fank Layden defended his pick on the basis that, "you can't teach height". Over the next 11 years, Eaton became known for his stifling defense, rebounding ability, and occasional dunks on offense. He became the defensive stopper in the shadow of Stockton & Malone, and the Jazz saw great success.

Awards earned during his career:
5 All-Defensive teams (three 1st teams)
2 Defensive Player of the Year
1 All-Star team

Statistics: Eaton is the career leader in blocks with 3.5 per game, and also boasts the highest season average (5.56 bpg) in history (both very unlikely to ever be broken). Among his other accomplishments, Eaton led the league in blocks 4 times, games played 4 times, defensive rebounding 1 time, Defensive Rating 1 time, and Defensive Win Shares 1 time. He posted 9 straight years of over 10 Defensive Win Shares, averaging 15 DWS/year over that span. Eaton also boasts a career Drtg of 100. He was hugely durable, missing only 9 games in his first 10 years (what's in the water in Utah?).

Reasoning: Defense. Having two 5-time All-Defensive players is huge, not to mention two 2-time winners of the Defensive Player of the Year award. Eaton has the size to contend with the biggest centers (unlike Rodman, Ben Wallace, Biedrins, Chandler, and others) and is not a complete offensive liability. Seeing as scoring was not a priority (with three 20 ppg scorers), drafting an anchor to my defense was a top priority (seeing as they are so rare).

My team is far:
SG: Sid "The Squid" Moncrief
SF: Vince "Vinsanity" Carter
PF: Antonio McDyess
C: Mark Eaton

BJLTNYK, you are on the clock...

guess his D will be solid, but man this seems like a huge reach. I had him going 7th round or so, which is when I'd draft him as my backup stiff white guy

KLJ already has 4 guys? Wow.

Also looks like I underrated Eaton's D. I knew he was good but didn't check all the All-D teams and DPOY's. Still, hate offensive zeros but at least at this point KLJ already had 3 very good offensive players.

I was wondering, wtf why is bobbo picking Eaton when he has Shaq?

Agreed, Eaton is a good pick, he was one of the stingiest defensive players in his day. In fact he was probably even better than Wallace, which is why that was such a LOL pick.

I love tayshaun. I got a few pms about him, and really I was salivating at the prospect/hope of getting him. He is insanely good. Both ends. Not selfish. Can work in a ton of systems. Damn, I'm jealous

He's one of the guys in mind when I said "better guys are available than Battier". Meaning, defensive ace, but a much more developed and useful offensive game to boot.

I don't think of Tayshaun as a role player though. He's a guy you need to factor in any game. I wanted to pick him and use this pick:

Eaton is decent value. Really hate Vince on that team though, but there weren't a lot of options left for you at the end of round 1 to be fair. If Pierce would've slipped one more spot that would've helped you so much.

I def support the Tayshaun pick, 3 picks deep and Victor's team still isn't defined, he can run or go the half court set, he could still even pick a D minded center and G/F and have a solid defensive team.
