Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion Thread

guy that took CP3: i understand why you took him, but severely disagree. i think GP could pwn him on both sides of the court, especially in this league with these rules. remember dwayne wade's 3rd year? everyone "knew" he was the next coming, after averaging 27/6/7/2/1 with .495/.783 and winning a championship.

Epeen: is anyone going to forget about Malone? i understand (to an extent) if it's Ewing, Mourning, Worthy, Drexler, etc (OMG YOU TOOK MY PICK), but Malone?

HSP:
i mean seriously, just pick.

if wade gets healthy he will return to form, maybe not 28 per form but he will be dirty

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion Thread

I'm here.

I tried to avoid this problem by being extremely clear that there are no time limits for our picks and everyone needed to be laid back and patient. The only reason I included a time limit for the first round is in case some people never showed up. Honestly, some picks could take 2 weeks(after the first round) and I'd be ok with that.

With all that said, its pretty damn annoying for someone to be here and purposefully not pick, especially in the first round when you have at most 3 or 4 top choices to narrow it down from.

I will not enforce a time limit, but seriously don't be an ass about it and make people wait just for the sake of making people wait. If I get the sense that anyone is doing that then they'll be kicked out. But otherwise, you can take as long as you need to think about your options.

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion Thread

btw. i am the biggest chris paul fan in the world but even i think taking him this high is crazy. one year of dominance cannot equal a decade and a half worth of excellence imo. i understand all the arguments about projections and stuff but take a guy like d-wade. after 05-06 he was the man, arguably up there with lebron on who's the next great one. now he has been riddled with injuries and could end up taking the t-mac route rather than the kobe route. cp3 has to have some sort of question marks considering he missed significant time just last year and has had several ankle scares. is his projected future really that much more valuable than stocton who is already a top 3 PG of all time?

I know I said this point above, but let me repeat it:

This is true, but just because we have seen a player's entire career doesn't mean that they'd be the same if we went back and re-did it all.

Imagine for a second that time simply repeats itself over and over again and the world we know it is just one of these many trials. Perhaps one of these great NBA players like Jordan, Malone, Hakeem, etc. performed at their absolute max during our run through, and that is just variance.

Now obviously having seen these players go through their careers once compared to those like Paul who we have seen zero times gives us a lot more confidence in taking them. Therefore I have no problem admitting Paul is a risky pick. But lets stop acting as if "OMG we have no clue how Paul will turn out, but all of these older guys are a surefire thing."

Many of you apparently disagree with me on this though, and I think thats great as it makes drafting more fun.

Interesting thread, would definitely be in if anyone does something similar for MLB (or NFL but that'd never end imo)

Bird would kill these scrubs playing in the nba today. most of them cant play d and lack fundamentals.

he would probally be the toughest guy in the league today and the best shooter.

players today don't compare with the magic, jordan era.

Is this like the opposite of the "Bird would be too slow and unathletic today" argument?

Re: Modern Era NBA Build a Franchise Draft Discussion Thread

So the guy everyone was talking about gets picked 12th, hmm, big surprise there. Not saying he wasn't intending to pick him anyway, but we'll never know. It's a draft for a reason - personal opinions. If we wanted to just list the 100 best players in order, that's what we would be doing instead.
