Also, there is a line in my writeup that says Wages of Wins think's Laimbeer's better than McHale. I'm not sure I agree, but here's the link.

[edit] OMG I found the whole play with the melee that ensured. It's at 4:26.. Check out Bird chucking the ball at Laimbeer, that is so freaking awesome!
Bird ejected. Lambeer Ejected. Lambeer wins again.

Rice could create his own shot, Peja can't. Rice is great value, much better basketball player than Peja.

Finally we can answer who benefit's more than McHale from this format - Penny.

Penny seems like a poor choice here. Really surprised by this.

I like it. I think people forget just how dominant Penny was in his early years. You get someone who matured early, and matured very well. Defensively he was very good, with his height being a major advantage.

Duncan and Hardaway would be a sick combo for the first few years. Both guys came into the league playing like 10 year vets.

Wow, I had totally forgotten how good Penny was those couple years. All I remember was lil penny.

And Terry Porter has to be one of the most underrated players ever. (and maybe my new fav coach!)

I have two guys I"m targetting with my next pick(I almost took them here). If one of them gets taken then I'm looking to trade up.

Today's few picks as pairs:
Al Jefferson w/ Kobe - Good inside scoring, improving each season, not as good of a passer or defender as Kobe's current pairing with Pau

Laimbeer w/ KG - odd pairing, it could work, Bill is a tough player

Porter w/ Admiral - should be a great match, Porter is a threat to score and a good passer, not great on defense

Rice w/ Dream - awesome shooter to catch and score when Dream is doubled, not so hot at d

Penny w/ Duncan - awesome scoring point when healthy, obviously not healthy too often and hence why he slipped

very interesting pick with penny. I don't know what to make of this. Its certainly sooner than I expected him to go. You have a sick sick team for year 1, there's no doubt about that.

I wonder if this is going to start a rush on the injured "what if" superstars. There are a decent number if guys that put up insane numbers at age 24 and then had their career cut short by injury.

Injuries are obviously the concern with Penny. But as you mentioned he didn't have pre-existing concerns like others. And microfracture has really come a scary long way. I think it might be a little too early(think you could have got him on way back) but I do like the combo with TD.

Round 2 / pick 76: Vlade Divac

When looking to build around Larry Legend, a solid big man is key. Well Vlade is more than solid, he's great. A very underrated player throughout the course of his career, he was a key contributor to very successful Lakers and Kings teams.

Though a traditional post scorer who commands a double would be ideal with Bird, those are rare and any left has too many deficincies that Vlade simply doesn't have. Vlade does many things well. He's a strong rebounder, an efficient scorer, and a very good, solid defender, bordering on great. He's also a deft passer, though he turns it over slightly more than I'd like. Though not known as a post scorer, he was at the very least effective down there as well as slashing across the lane, scoring in the mid teens for almost all of his career. As an added plus, he was extremely healthy, especially if we're tossing the age 23 season.

I like the pairing with Bird because it solidifies my front line and their strengths. Bird can count on Vlade to finish when he draws doubles and threads a needle to get him the ball. When Vlade slashes across the lane, defenses tend to collapse, and just a little space is all Bird needs. They both have high b-ball IQs. They'll man the boards and play solid defense. They'll piss off the opposition.

Basically, they'll own. Only real knock is Serbs aren't really pure white. Oh well.

Career accomplishments:
1-time All Star (give the guy a break he played in the golden age of centers)
39th in career Win Shares Above Average (6th in the '94-'95 season)
Picked 76th by me
Career PER - 17.7
Career TS% - .543

Team so far:
Larry Bird, SF
Vlade Divac, C

Interesting timing for Floppy Divac. I think the pairing with Bird could work though I had him down a little bit on my list of Centers for some reason.

kidcolin I hate you.

Reuniting Divac and Webber would of been so sick.

Great pick, the guy is severely underrated because of his flopping (which makes everyone hate him, but actually added to his value because he was so damn good at it)

I'm pretty sure that Vlade is the only NBA player who regularly smokes cig's even right before the game/at halftime.
